Smile Just bougth new receiver, did I make Mistake?

I just bought a Yamaha HTIB. The box model number is YHT 685. The receiver model is the HTR 6050. i was more than assured that I could get lossless audio on this. it is 5.1 set up. i have a PS3. I did a search and the model number did not come out anywhere. Someone please help. I am hooking it up to a Samsung 4669 TV. Thanks

Oh. I think you made a mistake if you wanted HD audio. Try to return it ASAP.

Ya, I think I'm reading this too. I was assured that I would get HD Lossless audio. I will be a little upset if this is true.

Yeah, return it. With the PS3 and a HTIB with no HDMI input you'll get no lossless audio.

Yeah I think they lied to you the hdmi only passes video and audio to the tv, and won't output sound to the yamaha speakers so no lossless via PCM with that setup. Return it and you can point out that the owners manual states that.

The receiver does have 2 HDMI input and one HDMI output, But I am reading that it does not play lossless audio. Thats all I need to know. It says something about not outputing audio thru HDMI. What does that mean?

Huh . . . the Audioholics review said it didn't have any HDMI input. Weird. Anyway . . . if it does indeed have HDMI but doesn't output audio from HDMI inputs, that means it has what's called HDMI passthrough . . . it will receive and output video, but it doesn't decode the audio input from HDMI.

It has to be HDMI ver. 1.1 or higher and be able to accept PCM (The PS3 sends out HD audio as PCM).

Not if the receiver won't output the audio to the speakers, which is the point you're at.

I must be really tired or upset. It seems like either everybody knows i dont have hd lossless audio or nobody knows really. The way i read it is that the receiver accepts audio and video thru hdmi but only outputs at video. Does that mean i need a optical wire to my TV?

What everyone is saying is that the HDMI on your receiver is only passthrough and won't send HD audio to your speakers. I know some folks here are against HTIB but you could find one that supports lossless (Onkyo for example) that is probably in your price range right now to get you started.

dude, that sucks. I was assured at 3 different bestbuy that it would play Lossless audio( It was cheaper and cheaper as i kept looking) I have a bestbuy card so I have to buy from there. I guess I will be spending more than I thought but I would like to stay under 650. Any suggestions from best buy only.
