Default WB + digital copy...is this the start?

So, WB gives us a digital copy of 10,000bc. Is this the start of many more digital copies or was this just a one time thing? Hopefully they give us a digital copy on all new day and date titles.

If it works for one studio they all eventually copy the idea. I imagine on movies that skew younger(ie males aged 12-24) the studios think this is a decent incentive for consumers to go out and buy an actual copy instead of pirating it.

I hope WB starts doing it for all their new day and date titles. I would love to see the rest of the studios pick up on this in time for the summer releases that are coming later this year. It would be great if they started doing it for catalog titles as well. But time will tell.

I don't know if anyone saw it but the Best Buy ad a couple of weeks ago had a bunch of Sony DVDs that were available exclusively there with digital copies. I don't really care either way as I really have no need to carry a version for a portable player, but I was quite surprised to see Sony supporting what is basically a rival device to their own PSP with these digital copies that only work with iPods and devices using Microsoft's PlaysForSure system. Even more surprising since Sony has already stated a video download service is coming to the PS3 by year's end.

It will be a more and more common feature. They'd rather toss a quarter to Apple to handle validations than have you ripping the disc.

Eventually these will be moved onto the actual blu-ray once there's more BD-ROMs and when PS3 gets an update to copy them

Direct BD copying would mean bigger HDD's. And with Sony's Video/TiVo service coming somtime this or next year everyone will need much more storage capacity. Good thing im upgrading soon.

What I don't understand about the "digital copy" thing is that it makes the piracy factor even more easy. Rent the BD, put the digital copy on your HD, return the BD, and share with your friends. At least with the BD content there is heavy security protecting the film from being pirated.

Maybe I'm missing something in this scenario?

When you rent the movie, they dont give you the Digital Copy disc and even if they did by accident, you dont have the code

Kind of ironic that they give us a digital copy of the one film that nobody wants to steal..

i think digital copy is a great idea.. before i could rip my dvds to my pc then re encode them for the psp.. with blue rays i dont have the ability to do this.. and if they can give me a simpler solution then great. Its a lot of hassle backing up dvds to your pc then re encoding in mp4 format etc..

I haven't tried the digital copy yet for any of the Fox titles. I may eventually try it out for my iPhone to see how it works out. In principle, I like the digital copy idea, as it basically answers the complaint from some that blu-ray doesn't offer portability in watching movies.

I currently have 3 fox titles digital copies on my iphone with Rambo and 10,000bc waiting to be uploaded on my iphone. The picture looks good for a heavily compressed file and the sound is good. When movies come with digital copies they move up my list just a little bit.

Does anyone know these can be copied to a disc? I would love to be able to play copies of my BD movies on my portable player or in the car (especially the kids movies)
