Default Different calories, different brands, same product

Ok, weird question for any of you nutrition geeks out there. I'm a calorie counter type person, I try and stay as healthy as possible and make sure I'm not getting the "cheap" high calorie food. (I make everything in my household from scratch). Anywhoo... Here's the weird thing, I know certain foods will have varying calories depending on different factors like meat will have more or less depending on fat content etc...

The real puzzler is things like dry pinto beans. I buy one brand of plain dry pinto beans that has 60 calories per 35 grams of dry beans. Another brand has 90 calories for 35 grams and most seem to top out at 120 per 35 grams. Ive done some googling and the consensus seems to be that 120 per 35 grams is about right for pinto beans (dry). How the hell are they putting 60 or 90 calories for the same weight of something cut and dry as pinto beans?????
