Now that I know who is in charge of this project, I'm actually jazzed for it: Is there a killer almost-a-movie that you’d consider trading a pinky to see on screen? For me, one such project will forever remain Batman: Year One from director Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem For a Dream, The Wrestler). There was a time when Aronofsky and Christopher Nolan seemed neck and neck for the reinvention of Batman on film, and while Nolan went on to make history, recalling the former director’s references of A French Connection, Dracula and hints at an R-rating still karate-chop my brain. Here's the small bit about the sequel: Quote:
I’ve said it before, there is no other director I’d rather see take on this material/canon, and I’m not at odds against a new vision. RoboCop is an iconic genre character, like Jason Voorhees or James Bond, and you can’t expect him to go away; also, the original film’s central themes of authority and law in the future are both timeless and warrant modern interpretations, albeit ones respectful of the source material. I also find it slightly humorous that Bloody Disgusting “tells” Aronofsky to check out The Dark Knight for inspiration; I’m pretty sure this guy has earned his gritty badge, dudes (even though The Fountain was a black hole of mush). EDIT - Darren Aronofsky confirmed to direct - http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=47153 Quote:

i like robocop enough i guess, but what we really is this director doing something more visionary and dark. aronofsky needs to helm the big screen adaption of the new moon knight. i'd pay big bucks to see that.

Coming in 2010? I don't know about this
"RoboCop," which is being fast-tracked for a 2010 release, becomes the first potential tentpole to come together since Mary Parent took the reins of MGM in March. Aronofsky's involvement has been one of the worst kept secrets, with rumors rampant in the blogosphere that "The Fountain" helmer was eyeing the project. MGM is keeping the logline under wraps, but insiders say it will take the sci-fi vigilante classic in more of a noir direction. http://www.variety.com/VR1117989455.html |

MTV confirmed that Aronofsky's RoboCop will be R rated (not 3-D).
MTV has finally confirmed that Darren Aronofsky’s Robocop film will most likely be Rated R. All I can say is Thank God. I can only imagine that Aronofsky’s Robocop won’t be a smooth chrome cyborg, and would likely be grittier than the original. I imagine that all the movie studios, including MGM, will attempt to take a cue from The Dark Knight and allow for a darker and less than traditional take. It would have been a huge mistake to make Aronofsky conform to a PG-13 rating, especially considering the original film was so over the top gory (earning an X rating during its first MPAA submission). Producer Mike Medavoy also denied reports that the film might be filmed and released in 3D, a rumor that has persisted since MGM’s first mention of the project at Cannes. It has also been confirmed that the film is a “re-imagining” in the same vein as Batman Begins, and “definitely not a sequel”. No story details have been revealed, other than that the movie will deal with the theme of the merger or technology and humanity. Robocop i expected to hit theaters in 2010. Head on over to MTV to read the full interview with Medavoy. |

I'm usually against remakes of great sci-fi classics, but I have to say, I would not be that bothered by a new Robocop. If you go back and see the original, it is REAL campy...and not just the parts that are intended to be campy. Even the theme music makes me go, "You got to be kidding me!" Everybody must have been on some serious coke back then- I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!
![]() It's a great premise and storyline to watch, again, but if you really get down to critically analyzing scene by scene, you'd think a 15 yr old wrote it. Last edited by Mr. Hanky; 07-29-2008 at 11:37 PM. |
