Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - Blu-ray Forum

Some photos have been released. This is a prequel that has a different director and star (Rhona Mitra). I'll wait for some trailers before I write this off.

Rise of the Lycans is actually a prequel to the two preceding films. While Beckinsale will be absent from the new film, Mitra is not taking over her role as Selene. Rather, the ballsy Brit with play Sonja, who is a secret lover of Lucian (Michael Sheen), a powerful leader of the werewolf clan that rises up against the Viktor (Bill Nighy), the vampire king. Since the film takes place in the Dark Ages, unlike the two before it, it seems natural that Mitra and crew are sporting armor this time around. Much of the cast of the previous two films will return in their same roles.

Not returning, however, is director Len Wiseman, who is also Kate Beckinsale's husband. Wiseman is still involved in a limited capacity, but newcomer and long-time production designer Patrick Tatopoulos will helm the film. Tatopoulos had a hand in the special effects and creature design for the previous Underworld films, along with many others in the sci-fi/horror space, including Pitch Black, The Cave and Silent Hill. That's not a bad resume, but it still leaves his ability to direct in question. All told, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is certainly a tweak to the series formula, but still promising in my mind. What do you think? Does Mitra look like a solid addition?

It might be alright. I won't say for sure unbtil I see a trailer though.

I've never really cared about the Underworld movies but I'll wait until it comes out on BD.

its to bad that kate wont be coming back still could be good will have to give a look as i am a big fan of the underworld movies.

I also thought I wouldn't see it without Kate Beckinsale (she is soooo much hotter than this girl) but I might yet see it. I liked the other 2 movies (1>2).

My only problem with these movies is that often times, the lycan do not look real, they look like costumes from low budget movies IMO.

Although this will be a completely new direction without Kate, I always thought a prequel would be very cool. Definitely worth seeing.

Haha it's funny though, I don't know if anyone recognized her, but the girl is the b**** lawyer from Nip/Tuck.

Well Kate's character Selene wouldn't have been introduced yet as this movie will cover how the Lycans and Vampires became enemies. Viktor's daughter (played by the new girl) begins an affair with Lucian and thats how the whole thing got started. They only show flashbacks of it in the first two. But I agree Kate made those movies, she is way hot.

I can't wait to see this. It's nice to see them telling the whole back story with Lucian and Viktor's daughter. I can't wait to see this on Blu when it comes out.

Looks good I hope since its the same people doing it they have the same scenes as they did in the flash backs so it all ties in nicely.
