Default Best screen for the AX200 / similar spec projectors?

Hi everybody,

I just got the panny AX200 a couple of weeks back. I'm now looking to get a 100-120'' screen to go with it. Bugdet is a maximum of $1200. On my own research, i've shortlisted the Da-Lite High Contrast Cinema Vision 106'' screen (Grey) followed closely by the Da-Lite Cinema Vision (Matte White).

Need some advice from ax200/similar spec projector owners on what to go with (u can ignore the two i've shortlisted if u have a better option in mind)

Here is my viewing enviornment:-

Screen type: Fixed
Light conditions: Able to achieve 95% darkness 80% of the time.
Usage: 60% movies, 40% gaming
Personal preferences: Prefer image and colors to be vivid and lively, like those on a big Bravia Screen. Can sacrifice some black level performance for more accurate color reproduction.

Now that u know all there is to know..........advice advice!! plz!!

I'd suggest the Carada Brilliant White Screen.

I would go for the Gray screen as the pt-ax200u can produce a very bright image.

I would contact my local Stewart dealer to see what type of pricing they have.

Grey is good if you have ambient light and want to achieve deeper blacks. Considering the OP wants something with pop I would steer clear of a Grey screen. Also consider the fact that he wants a 100+ inch screen. Light output will depend on how far the projector is from the screen. The OP can check that using a calculator that determines light output with a given screen/projector like the one over at projector central.

so...is it grey or is it white????. How much of a trade off is there between black level and "pop" (bright vivid image) in a grey screen. I'm counting on controlling ambient light as much as i can so that the black level/contrast performance improves even on the white screen.

Anybody used both white and grey would be able to answer best i guess

Well, you may want to contact whichever company you are going to buy the screen from for samples. I know Carada will send you samples if you contact them. A grey screen will lessen the pop effect your looking for and considering you said you were willing to sacrifice some black level that is why I suggested teh Carada BW screen. You can check out the dedicated thread over at AVS on how Carada screens are and you may get some more opinions as well there.
