Default Went to pick up a smaller LCD for the bedroom but ended up...

Getting a 50' SXRD and moving my 50' 1080i Rear- Projection Sony to the bedroom.

So far I'm loving the SXRD, Rewatched some trailers in 1080P and watched a blu-ray last. Having not calibrated anything yet I am noticing it's a little overly red in the factory configuration.

I thought we were going to walk out Best Buy with nothing after the first couple of TV's we wanted weren't in stock. Then my wife says "Let's just get the 1080P Sony." Imagine my face when I heard that.

I was watching The Marine on Blu-ray last night on the new TV. I hadn't calibrated at all yet. Just set the color to standard setting instead of vivd. Red's and Yellows seemed very bright almost overly pronouced. I'm going to calibrate it using a sony Blu-ray tonight but wondered if it was normal for all the colors to pop so much more vs my old KDF50E2000? Maybe it'll tone down as the set breaks in? Is there a break in period with the TV's?

Well, newer TVs are have better color primaries (wider color gamut) than old sets. If you get a Wratten 47 (or deeper) blue filter and set using color bars, you're setting the color to match the TV primaries' color gamut. If it's a wider gamut that the 'Standard", colors will be a little more saturated. (On test reviews they sometimes show how the TV set's primaries compare to the HDTV/sRGB standard ones, (or to the professional monitor SMPTE "C"/EBU ones used for NTSC/PAL (DVD)). But maybe it just is that older sets have less saturation than the standards and you've been used to that. Anyway, if you think color is too much, you can always adjust to taste
