Hi there,
Just thought I'd ask if the changing aspect ratio's on the Dark Knight BD release will allow me to see everything that was on the IMAX screen when the AR shifts to 1:78:1? Would there be any cropping from 1:44:1 to fit into a 1:78:1 image? |

Actually, oddly enough, it seemed that it was cropped for IMAX. In the IMAX prologue on Batman Begins, you can see on the left side the camera helicopter's reflection. When you actually see it on the IMAX screen, I am about 99% sure it's cut off. So I am thinking it was filmed 1.78:1, then cropped to 1.44:1 for IMAX use. But I could be wrong.

Or maybe they could just separate the IMAX scenes as extras only and leave the feature presenation in 1 size. Easy fix.

I also didn't notice it was 1.71:1 on the Batman Begins disc because my set does a 2.5% overscan. |

Putting on and then removing the black bars is ridiculous. Just keep the IMAX scenes as extras.

I think the IMAX scenes will be pillarboxed if they maintain the 1:44:1. Or if they open up to it's original 1.71:1 ratio it will almost fill up the 1.78:1 TV (like the prologue in Batman Begins").
The normal scenes will be letterboxed for the 2.35:1 ratio to avoid cropping (those scenes were shot anamorphically and were cropped for IMAX screens). But yeah, if they want, they could do branching technique for us to watch with the IMAX scenes or normal ones, just like "Close Encounters" and "I Am Legend". |

Not everybody saw it on an IMAX theater. The majority of people who saw this movie, it was all in 1 form. You start giving people this widescreen/fullscreen interchanging crap, they will hate it and demand the DVD version instead. No matter how much you all loved this movie, you can't disagree with what I just said. It's not a very good business move to do something like this. It will drive even more DVD sales than Blu-Ray sales.
