Default Onkyo 606/PS3

Ok so I started building my home theater setup and have some questions. When connecting the PS3 to the receiver what do I need for settings to get all the HD audio to play? Right now I have the PS3 set to Linear PCM and the onkyo's audio prefrences set to default to PLIIx Movie. Is this the right setup or is there a better way? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

i usually set my prefrences to last used. as far as the ps3, keep it on lpcm and select everything for the hdmi setting. when watching blus and playing games i usually keep it on direct and it shows up as pcm.

Thanks for the info. When you have it set the way you do, do you get the clicking from the receiver when you first start the blu-ray movies?

interestingly, i only got clicking from the receiver after i messed with the audio preferences. even more interesting than that, i was able to get rid of the clicking by switching the PS3 audio settings (of all places) from manual to automatic, then back to manual. My receiver clicked a couple times initially after i made those changes, but has not clicked since. weird, but it worked for me.

does this change in settings work on the 705 as well? bought it about 6 months ago and only had clicking on the HDMI inputs, never with anything else.
Thanks!

PLIIx Movie is for converting 2 channel audio into surround.

you should be using either multichannel or direct when using lossless audio. i don' think you can select anything else. i use multichannel myself.

i believe the clicking is the receiver switching.

I know on mine (the 705) it occurs when there's a change in video output. ie. my PS3 is set to display at 1080i, but some games are in 720p. Might just be my set-up. I have a 2 year old Westinghouse 32" LCD only displays at 1080i, which caused some grief when the PS3 first came out!

Hello Rune!

I also have Onkyo 606 and PS3. I suggest you read the receivers manual on page 64 and 65. It explains everything about listening modes.
