Default *POLL* George Lucas should...

Create the fate of Mr. Lucas. I've had great frustrations with the man since 2001. Discuss and have fun with it.

This has what exactly to do with Blu-Ray?

And this thread is only going to lead to the usual childish bullcrap.

Indy 4 will be on my worst 10 movie list for a very very long time... An abomination i tell ya...

Sorry. The seventh option should have been: ...should release the Star Wars trilogy on Blu.

I'd kind of like to see him come up with something new. Obviously he's a creative cat with a lot of ideas, but I think he needs a new outlet for them, rather than plugging them into existing franchises.

I think you just hit the nail on the head. THX-1138 and American Graffiti were great.

I wish he would leave SW and Indy alone and work on something new.

Oh man, American Graffiti is one of my favorite movies I'm hoping comes to Blu soon. But I do agree with some of the others on the forum and think he should his two biggest franchises alone, and I hope he creates some newer films.

i personally think the only thing he needs to do is have someone proof read his scripts when he's done!! his writing is a little childish in my opinion. his stories are great but his dialog is not the best.

does anyone remember "yippppiiieeee" from the phantom menace???

other than that, i really enjoy his movies, even the prequel star wars trilogy AND Indy 4.

He is. His next picture is a film on the Tuskegee Airmen.

Red Tails is a film being developed by George Lucas. The story follows the events surrounding the Tuskegee Airmen, who were African American pilots during World War II renowned for their bravery. George Lucas discussed with Samuel L. Jackson being an actor in and possibly directing the film, and also sent him the script to review. Jackson praised the script, and suggested Lucas could mentor him through parts of directing such as special effects, though Jackson is not yet committed to either role. The film has been under development by George Lucas since 1990. John Ridley penned the most recent screenplay draft. Lucas says the film is close to production as of August 2008. Location scouting was taking place as of June 2008 in Prague and Italy, and filming may begin as soon as late 2008 or early 2009.

+1(Flaming Staff of Smiting)!!!
Huzah!
Agreed and amplified!

Why is it that the (actually pretty good, but that's not the point) "Star Wars: Clone Wars" CGI animated movie/TV mini-series is comming out on Blu-ray soon, but we have not heard ANYTHING about him working on the "Star Wars" trilogy(ies) on Blu-ray!?!? (John Mcain: "Huh?" "Hunh?" "Ehhh?") I'm not expecting him to drop everything and put these classics out tommorow (especially as a rush job) but he should have at least announced his intentions/plans as to when he IS going to start work and when we might possibly expect to see them. (Unless there was an announcement and I missed it. If so, could someone copy that info, or a URL to it?)

I don't really care what else he does AFTER he puts out the "Star Wars" movies on Blu-ray, but I don't think it's too much to ask that he gets that done before he does any more new work. He actually missed the perfect oportunity to release "Episode 4: A New Hope in 2007 (the 20 year anniversary of the first film) and then release the other films later, or even put out 20th Anniversary editions of the 2nd and 3rd films (Episode 5: "The Empire Strikes Back" and Ep6: "The Return of the Jedi") in 2010 and 2013 respectively, and put out the '"prequel" trilogy at anytime in between those releases. I would even accept it if he put out the "prequel" movies first, and then took his time to do the original trilogy right (oh, and George, give us BOTH the theatrical and your "special" versions of the films, and let US decide which we want to watch, OK? If you give us your "special", mangled versions only again, I will hunt you down and... well, very nasty things that if I listed them here would get me arrested!!! And T.I.A./ "Homeland" Security Department / NSA, that last sentence was a joke, humor, NOT SERIOUS!!! OK?)

I just hope we don't get a repeat of what happened with the DVD's! That he make us wait for years, giving us BS excuses like "Piracy Concerns" and "Taking 5 years to get everything right",.. and then stick us with his manhandled "Special" Edition versions where Greedo shots first, and all the stormtroopers are holding walkie-talkies instead of guns (;~), and then make us buy them again a year later after he finally relents to all the gripes from the fans, and Georgie finally put out another version that includes the ORIGINAL theatrical cuts!!!
Oh, and George, see if you can get Speilberg to put the good "Indiana Jones" movies out on Blu-ray soonish (I have not seen the new one yet, but have read a lot of negative and mixed reviews of it). I might even buy the new one if it's part of a 4-pack of all 4 movies (not likely as the 4th one just came out on Blu-ray, He's more likely to put out the first 3 as a set) if the price is reasonable. I might have to rent the 4th movie first, to see if it's even worth having in my collection.

In my opinion, George Lucas’s Star Wars movies were popular and innovative, but they were not great. The only movies that George Lucas directed and I enjoyed were “THX 1138" and “American Graffiti.”

Alec Guinness hated working on Star Wars. He claimed that he convinced George Lucas that “Kenobi would be a more effective mystical mentor if he appeared to Luke as a ghost. Lucas liked the idea, rewriting the first film to include the Jedi Knight’s death in combat with Darth Vader.”

However, Guinness claimed he had less purely artistic goals at heart.

What I didn't tell him was that I just couldn’t go on speaking those bloody awful, banal lines. I’d had enough of the mumbo jumbo.”

The actor also thought that the devotion of the film’s fans was “obsessive” at times. He said he was personally “mystified” by the Star Wars phenomenon.

Guinness also claimed to throw away all Star Wars related fan mail without even opening it.

http://www.space.com/sciencefiction/guinness.html

These are some of the Alec Guinness’ line from the movie:

“Use the Force, Luke.”

“The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.”

“I have something here for you. Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow it. He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade like your father did. It's your father's lightsaber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or as random as a blaster, but an elegant weapon for a more civilized age. For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire.”

“Luke : Listen, I can't get involved. I've got work to do. It's not that I like the Empire; I hate it. But there's nothing I can do about it right now... It's all such a long way from here.
Obi-Wan : That's your uncle talking.”

“Luke : How did my father die?
Obi-Wan : A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights. He betrayed and murdered your father.”

“That's no moon. It's a space station.”

I prefer to see Guinness in classic movies such as “Great Expectations”, “The Ladykillers”, “The Bridge on the River Kwai”, “Lawrence of Arabia”, and “Doctor Zhivago”.

You really think a hissy fit will stand in the way of his next billion dollars? He'll do what he's told, and then screw it up somehow. Some people have a million great ideas, and others have three, four tops, but believe themselves geniuses. Make a poll out of that one.

(And yes, I realize I have written no script myself, for anyone imaginatively stunted enough to make that argument...and doesn't change the principle)

*edit* ...and any option on a poll involving death is a bit harsh.
