Default Stranger Than Fiction ?

Has anyone found any differance between the the previous release of Stranger than Fiction and the special edition coming in December? I couldn't really notice....

i'm guessing this will be a new encode since the previous one was mpeg2.

It was a dang good looking MPEG2 encode. Seems like it would be a waste of resources to re-encode it.

The price is cheaper too at amazon, 26.95 for old one, and only 19.95 for the Special Edition.

I'm assuming the Special Edition will include more features so why is the price lower? Not that I'm complaining any!

Current Blu-ray edition (A little fuzzy...):

The current edition has the uncompressed PCM track and a few extra subtitle tracks.

New special edition:

The new edition has the Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track and only three subtitle tracks.

Both releases have multiple behind-the-scenes featurettes and deleted scenes. Although the special edition claims that these deleted scenes are "never-before-seen", but they might be the same deleted scenes that are on the current release. And whereas the current edition has the "Funny On-Set Moments" feature, the new release has commentaries from the director, cast, and filmmakers as well as BD-Live Features.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, I also noticed the picture quality of the STF preview on big fish and other sony movies didn't look too good, but that isn't always an indication of the actual movie on BD. I guess they might have changed the aspect ratio for the preview too...

I've always thought it was one of the worst mpeg2 encodes, full of video noise and compression artifacts...
