Default Anyone disappointed in Resistance 2?

Hey guys just want to know how most feel about Resistnace 2. I purchased it over the weekend and noticed a lot of differeneces from the first Resistance game. One being that you can only carry two different guns (at least for now) and one gun you lose when you start the next level you complete. Second is the characters seem too colorful and bright, not as dark or black and white like the first Resistance which would make you think that is nice right? However to me, it looks too much like Halo now, and for me Halo is terrible. The controls are different (much like Call of Duty 4) which isn't so bad, but I still feel the controls were better in the first game. Also the rifle gun doesn't zoom or do slow motion like the first game. It's small things like all these that I mentioned that makes the game disappointing to me. Overall, I like the mechanics and play better of Resistance: Fall of Man and I think Insomniac missed out on the fundamentals this time around. Anyone else see my point or?

I understand the gripe about starting the level with only one gun. Not a big deal though, but I don't get why people think they should be able to carry around 15 guns with them. You couldn't do that IRL. It also adds an element of decision making to the game as you have to decide if you really want to discard a weapon you have for one thats laying on the ground.

The characters? How were these characters bright? I don't think there was one joke in the whole game.

How are these controls different than R1?

Sniper rifle zooms and slows just like in the first game.

yeah the controls were exactly the same... except for running, which I liked alot.

I to missed the vehicles, as large scale as this game was claiming you'd think they would add them, also I finished this game in less then 24 hours, beat my own personal record there... although this game has made changes, I didn't really mind ANY of them, the only thing I felt terrible about was the ending of the game.

the ending is either love or hate. i don't know of anybody who saw that coming.

I trust Insomniac already though of a way of explaining just wtf was going on before they ended it like that though.

Well the controls are different as you have to hold down the zoom button versus in the first one you can just press the zoom button down once and it would stay zoomed. When I said the characters were briggter I didn't mean as in smarter I meant in terms of color. The game doesn't resemble an army based theme game. I also don't like how the enemies are a lot further away and can shoot at you from what seems to be miles away. This is just my opinion. I would not rate it a 9.0 as Gamespot did. the first one yes, the second, no.

I don't think I even noticed that, I'm guessing I just always just held L1 when playing the original, because thats what im used to with a FPS. Didn't even know you only had to press it in the original.

I felt the colors were more saturated if that is what you mean.

I just wish they would have kept the 2 player split screen campaign... The Co-op is fun but as an addition not replacement.... I miss shooters where you could have an actual friend sitting next to you playing split screen death match with bots....

Other than the scrapping of the 2 player campaign I really enjoyed the game... Story is great, but i dunno about the online... maybe I just need more time but it just doesn't seem that fun....

And I am glad they made it only 2 weapons to carry... makes you have to choose instead of being a one man weapons arsenal.

Graphics on the 1 player I liked, but the split screen online graphics suffer.. and the horizontal split screen looks terrible... should make an option to have horizontal or vertical split.

Would you guys recommend Resistance 2? I've been playing Gears of War 2, and that game is simply amazing. I also wanted resistance 2 on PS3, since I only have one game for it (MG4). Would it be worth buying?

I sort of agree with 'Ducky. I wanted more time with the cool 'hand-splatter' power I had at the end but maybe it's open on purpose for a third installment. Great game though. Love the environments and the creatures are meaner.

Yes, since i'm a huge Resistance Fall of Man fan, a'm very dissapointed in Resistance 2.

I totally miss the 2 player offline Co-op story mode in Resistance 2, i still don't understand why they removed this amazing feature, yes R2 has 8player online but it is completely different to its sp storymode, even the gameplay is different.

- No 2 player offline splitscreen storycampaign.

- No 4 player offline splitscreen Deathmatch, CTF ect.

- No weaponwheel wich allows you to carry more than just 2 weapons.

- The carbine has changed, no zoom, no bullets, no crosshair with dot, weaker "feeling"

- The female narrator in RFoM was perfect, they shouldnt removed her in R2.

- Short SP campaign

- Healtsystem in RFoM is perfectyl fine, but now in R2 your screen gets completely red once a single buttel hit you.

There are sooo many dissapointmens in R2, i'll stay with RFoM

If you put stock in reviews ...

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...line-play.html

"In a sense, Resistance 2 is very much the antithesis of Gears of War 2. Microsoft's title focuses on a tight, intimate experience, placing you up close and personal with a relatively small amount of on-screen enemies. Resistance 2 is much more focused on the warfare at grand scales. Giant creatures and cityscapes fill the screen, and are often playable elements, rather than simple background scenery. Gears may be more immediately impressive, but Resistance 2 puts its console's power to much better use and is far less a flash-in-the-pan."

There is also a link to their Gears 2 review to see if it matches your impressions.

Personally I am very disappointed in the game. First they adopted 2 of the 3 things I hated about COD 3. 1) only 2 guns at a time, 2) healing by getting out of the line of fire for 5 seconds. Someone mentioned that change one makes it more life like, which is true, but then why do 2, that is not life like, sure you can argue that that is a byproduct of being half chimarian (sp?). I don't remember, did resistance 1 have armor?

2 other things that really bothered me as other people have pointed out, 1) no vehicles to ride in. 2) extreamly short. According to my profile I completed it in 19.? hours of game play (on normal difficulty). That is way to short, I think even the Half-Life 2 Episodes 1 or 2 each took me longer then that, and they aren't meant to be a full scale game.

Question, someone mentioned earlier that there is no 2 person cooperative campaign. So what exactly is the 2 person cooperative game that is available. I was looking forward to playing this with a friend, but haven't had my friend over since I got the game.

Overall, although I liked the new weapons, and the new monsters, due to its shortness I can't recommend this game at its current price of $60. Buy it used when it is below $20 then you will get your monies worth. I would estimate that the length of the game is less then 20% of the original (or maybe I just sucked when I played the original).

Regarding the ending I too was disappointed in it, but unlike a previous poster, I did see it coming, and in fact thought it was obvious. They threw about a dozen hints to it.

I would actually have like to see them give each gun a weight and you can only carry so much weight with you. It would be one thing to hold an augur with a magunum, you could def. do that. Its another to carry around a wraith and an augur (two huge guns), you shouldn't be able to do that, or if you can it slows you down or something. Still better than carrying 15 around.

You are able to re-heal yourself, because you have chimarian dna and that is one of their traits. If you remember in the first chapter of the original, before you get infected, you do not have the re-heal ability.

1. I wish they would have improved on the vehicles in 1 and put them in here, I was kind of disapponted that there wern't any vehicles to ride around in.

2. Agreed and Im shocked it took somebody 19 hours, I played through it in about 10 hours on difficult. The original took me about 19 to play though, they should have kept it that long. Most fps are 7-12 hours in length.

You can play split screen online co-op with a buddy.

Online offers a ton of value, you will easily get your monies worth if you play online.

20% of the original? If this one took you nearly 20 hours to play, are you saying the original took 100 hours to compelte you either really are not very good or have no concept of time.

[Show spoiler] I expected to see Capelli try to shoot him, but I didn't think we would see Hale's brains get blown out. Also, where the f*** were they!!?!?!? That was nuts. And Hale getting force-like powers at the end was strange too.

I love graphical games, I love colours, it makes the game seem much more better.
I hated R1. It looked like someone threw grey all over the screen and called it a day. Plus, I felt like there needed to have some improvements. I felt like it lacked something needed.

I bought R1, sold it off, bought it again to give it another chance, and then sold it off again.

I was so sketchy to get R2 because of R1, but I'm GLAD I did. I LOVE R2, Graphically, its REALLY nice, and gameplay is def. A+.

Although storyline is short, online is fantastic, I LOVE the 60 man multiplayer.

Plus, I haven't experienced any framerate dropped, which made me extremely happy.
