Default Double Sided BDs

BDs are surrounded by a protective cover, as far as I know.. It couldn't be more laborious to handle such discs, so why not making all BDs double sided?
you could have up to 100 GB free space. BD players could use a mirror or something to read both sides ^^
ok.. it would be more expensive, but I wouldn't care about this

just tell me your views or solutions for the reading problem

ps: sry, i'm a German, so don't wonder about my poor english. :P

Because, Image is everything. They would rather a brand name be on the top of the disc, then more data. Plus they want you to buy another disc, not just use the top of one you already own. Its marketing. They want you to see a logo on the top, and they want you to remember it.

position a mirror under the logo, just 30 cents more...

and if they want you to buy more discs, why have they developped those discs? you have to buy 7 DVDs if you want to have the space of a BD.
this would be better for the sellers

Because flipper disks were always unpopular as it's a pain to work out what the disk is, (if seperated from the box), and which side is which. Plus it looks a lot nicer to have a proper printed side with the name of the disk etc..

blu ray discs are by nature multi layer and Sony has already achieved blu ray discs in 4 and 8 layers capable of storing 100 and 200gb so I don't think storage is the problem for blu ray . Double sided discs are unnecessary and as said before they are not practical and useful for manufacturers.

Just curious... is there a visible increase in the thickness of an 8-layer BD? 8 sounds larger than the 2 layers of the original...

Took the words right out of my mouth. We could see 4+ layer Blu-ray discs in as little as months after the initial software launch.

Didn't Sony say that it would launch 4 layer discs in 2007?
