Default My dumb friend is dumb

Lol, my friend has a PS3 but no HDTV. So a week ago he told me he rented a movie on Blu-ray, and I asked him if he got an HDTV yet and still no HDTV, so I was very confused. It's hilarious because the guys at Blockbuster told him that even though he has a standard def TV, he will still see a little difference in PQ. So after he told me that, I told him that it makes no difference at all. So, just now he told me he rented A Clockwork Orange on Blu-ray...

I asked him why he get's Blu-ray's if he doesn't have an HDTV and he said "because I can use them"

People like this make me angry. Your thoughts?

My thoughts, are that your dumb friend isn't as dumb as you think.....

Just like "Superbit" dvds are an improvement over another version of the dvd (for instance)

THERE IS improvements over a standard DVD with a Blu-ray on a non-HD television.....

He's right....

You shouldn't call your friend dumb

Ah phooey! Don't worry, not an insulting dumb, just a "wtf are you thinking" dumb. I still don't know how an improvement in PQ is possible

Well let us just say that he got the best possible quality for a standard TV.
But anything beyond that is a placebo.

I watched last night my Bluray of "Hoodwinked" on my HDTV and if he could see the crystal clear 1080p picture he would stop loving his standard TV.

We've done side by side on two SDTVs with blu-ray, there is a difference, small, but there is definately a difference.

a DVD is 8.7GB a BD is 50GB that is more then 5x the capacity. obviously going HD means a need for more capacity but is still a lot more capacity then DVD. In the end the BD is a lot less compressed and even downscaled to SD it is still better then something on DVD. Also BD has better quality audio

so your friend is not dumb. On the other handdoes your BB charge more for the BDs?

Buying a PS3/Blu Player before owning a HDTV is truly "putting the cart before the horse".

I disagree.

Since the economy is in the shitter, I'd rather spend $400 on a game console than $2000 on a TV. Save up for the TV until you have enough but spending $400 on the game console is enough for now.

what is wrong with someone buying a PS3. Maybe he didi it to have access to better movies, maybe he did it because he likes games and wants to be able to play games like Motorstorm or RFOM or other games that are not available on the consol he had. Maybe he bought it because he needed a DVD player and decided not to buy for the past (DVD) but for the future (BD). Maybe he is planning to upgrade the TV but waiting for after the holydays....

Even on Sd. Blu-ray's have better colors, less noise, blocking removed, etc if done right. Then there is the sound
