Default Integra vs Marantz

I'm considering trading in my current receiver, and the place that is doing the trade has several options for receivers, all of which I will listen to. The only thing that I'm asking, as I'm debating between Marantz and Integra, is which one has a better brand reputation for quality? The reason I ask is because I've heard of all sorts of issues with Onkyo, and Integra is technically Onkyo. So, if you could choose between the two brands, would you pick Integra or Marantz, sound quality aside (as I will determine that on my own listening)?

My dealer just started to carry the Integra series. He said that the two companies designs are completly different, meaning Integra and Onkyo. Now he was talking about the Integra seperates that add up to a total of $5,000. However Marantz have their seprates as well that are priced about the same. I have not heard either of these products so this is just hear say.

Unless you're going with Marantz' Reference line of products, you're going to get excellent equipment from either company. If you're considering the Reference line of Marantz, choose Marantz.

If not it's a push.

No experience with Marantz, but I have an older "Onkyo Integra" power amp that I use in my guitar room, and man that thing cranks clean power like no other!

Still it would be intresting to see the schematics for a comparable Onkyo and Integra receiver.

I have the Integra DTC9.8 processor paired with the Anthem PVA7 amplifier. This was much cheaper than the Integra power amp - total package was $3400. And By the way, it sounds awesome - wouldn't trade it for anything.

It depends on you the end user. The Integra is fine if you will only be listening to digital sources. So movies and music should be great if you are using digital inputs, however the analog section is abysmal. Marantz, from their receiver line up, all the way up to the AV8003 and their reference line will have a superior analog section.

If you plan on using digital sources only, then integra is fine, but if you plan on using the analog inputs, then look elsewhere. Marantz is a good start.

The benchmarks between the Integra and the Marantz for analog inputs don't seem to give much either way:

Integra DTR-8.8AV
Analog frequency response in Direct mode:
–0.06 dB at 10 Hz; –0.02 dB at 20 Hz
–0.02 dB at 20 kHz; –0.21 dB at 50 kHz

Response from the multichannel input to the speaker output measures –0.06 decibels at 10 hertz, –0.02 dB at 20 Hz, –0.03 dB at 20 kilohertz, and –0.22 dB at 50 kHz. THD+N from the CD input to the speaker output was less than 0.011 percent at 1 kHz when driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load. Crosstalk at 1 kHz driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load was –91.80 dB left to right and –85.94 dB right to left. The signal-to-noise ratio with 2.83 volts driving an 8-ohm load from 10 Hz to 24 kHz with "A" weighting was –107.76 dBrA.

Marantz AV8002
Analog frequency response in Pure Direct mode:
–2.59 dB at 10 Hz; –0.81 dB at 20 Hz
–0.09 dB at 20 kHz; –0.54 dB at 50 kHz

Response from the multichannel input to the speaker output measures –2.21 decibels at 10 hertz, –0.69 dB at 20 Hz, –0.09 dB at 20 kilohertz, and –0.54 dB at 50 kHz. THD+N from the CD input to the speaker output was less than 0.017 percent at 1 kHz when driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load. Crosstalk at 1 kHz driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load was –79.92 dB left to right and –78.19 dB right to left. The signal-to-noise ratio with 2.83 volts driving an 8-ohm load from 10 Hz to 24 kHz with “A” weighting was –95.25 dBrA.

If anything the Integra seems a little more impressive.

This is digital only, as I have a 2 channel pre-amp that I use for music/analog. The only reason why I'm switching receivers is to get pre-outs to go to my amp so that I can run one set up without switching cables every time (I'm buying a custom rca switcher that RUR recommended a while back that I can run my pre-outs from the receiver and the outs from my preamp to). Not sure if one brand would have a better pre-out stage than the other though. Thanks for the info so far!
