Default PowerDVD and ATI 4870

I just upgraded my video card to the ATI 4870 and for the most part I'm happy with it.

The only problem I'm having with it, is PowerDVD Ultra 8 and the latest catalyst drivers.

The BD Advisor says that the ATI's latest driver is NOT HDCP compatible, i get the "switch to VGA connection" error-message.

Is it that the driver is so new that Cyberlink hasn't made powerDVD compatible with it yet?

I hate PowerDVD! Been having countless issues with them. If the other packages weren't so expensive, or if they at least had a trial-version for blu-ray, then I'd be switching over in a heartbeat!

PowerDVD is actually one of the best if not the best Blu-Ray playback software.

Are you running XP? The newest versions of PowerDVD won't play *any* BD disc under XP with an ATI graphics card, regardless if you have a HDCP capable monitor or not, because Cyberlink has broken the HDCP detection.

In my case, I tested the newest PowerDVD Ultra 7 with Radeon HD 4670 1GB (CAT 8.10) on XP MCE SP3. And I got the HDCP compatibility message also. The previous version of PowerDVD works just fine w/CAT 8.10, but not with 8.11. There is a known issue between PowerDVD and the newest CAT also.

OK, so i'm NOT alone and YES I DO run XP Home. What exactly does that mean, "Cyberlink has broken the HDCP detection?" I hope it doesn't mean that only a VGA connection will do!

I was under the impression that all you needed was an HDCP connection at the video card. But from what posted, HAVING an HDCP monitor will STILL have these issues? My Blu-Ray Advisor displays the "Display with HDCP connection" as "passed" along with graphics card as "passed", just NOT the video driver

My dell 24" LCD is HDCP. My Panasonic Viera, obviously isn't. I get the error message with EITHER display.

I'm not sure how exactly Cyberlink broke the HDCP check in the newest version (7.3 4617) in XP, but I guess the VGA connection would be the only way to make the newest version work on XP.

The previous version of PowerDVD 7.3 4407 works on my system using CAT 8.10 via DVI even though BD Advisor says my HD 4670 is unknown. Here is a scan result from a few weeks ago.

Now, I'm running Vista and uninstalled PowerDVD since ArcSoft TMT integrates well with Media Center. My current ring is going to be a HTPC in the near future once I finish building a new rig.
