Default Apple TV

Anyone using it? Any thoughts? I currently own a PS3 but am thinking about adding this to the mix.

Am going to pick it up shortly. The latest version sounds like a winner. Only thing I hate is that the 160GB model here in Aussie is $450.

I own the 160GB version and am happy with it. Before you buy it be aware of its limitations.

a) It can only be synced to a computer with iTunes.
b) You can currently only rent HiDef movies from the iTunes Store.
c) "Hacking" the AppleTV can void the warranty.
d) Limited ways of using the Front Row Type interface.

One other limitation to consider is that you cannot export shows and movies you download directly from the Apple TV to an external hard drive. That means when your drive fills up, you have to delete things you've already paid for. Kind of irritating to learn this the hard way

The way around this, of course, is to download stuff directly to your desktop PC and sync itunes to the AppleTV. Still, kind of wish they had a way to keep things you've legally paid for.

I'm considering it for better interface, more space from a desk top. Hoping to kind of make a media centre PC. The feedback helps. I appreciate it...

you can use apple lossless on apple tv, PS3 only goes AAC 358 kpbs as its highest bit rate. That's your advantage.

Also some people, me, like to have music blasting for some games that don't have in game music

Personally, I think the itunes library is a huge advantage. Right now there isn't a ton of stuff available on PS3 for download. No doubt that will change, but as far as getting legal stuff right now, you can't beat itunes. But yeah, if you're just getting it for streaming video from your PC, there isn't much point IMO.

Amazon MP3's are DRM free. DRM free always > DRM laden.
