Default home alone dissapoints!

The PQ on this looks no different than the SD dvd. I know its an old movie but i was reeally hoping PQ was some bit noticeably superior.

I also bought jingle all the way and havent seen it yet...hoping it is going to be better

Arnold versus Sinbad? How could that not be good? This is what Blu-ray was created for!

It's a shame for Home Alone. I wasn't planning on buying it but I know it's a real favorite for many. Too bad they did not make a good transfert.

Dang! Is the PQ really that bad? I wanted to buy Home Alone, but if it's hardly any better than the SD, then I might as well save the money.

honestly it looks like the dvd version. I cant tell much difference. Other blurays you can easily tell a difference withouht a side by side comparison cuz the picture pops...this bluray just doesnt.

i disagree, i notice a big difference in picture quality. Especially in little details. Is it the best blu-ray... no not even close but with many cataloge titles I really don't expect them to be. I just want them to be a nice upgrade and I think it is. I don't have the family fun edition on dvd, I have the original home alone dvd that came out so maybe that is why, but my blu-ray in side by side comparisons is a very nice upgrade over the dvd.

It really drives me nuts...... the number of people who preface a comment about PQ with "I know it's an old movie" or "It looks great despite being an old movie" or "I didn't expect much because it was an old movie but...."

FILM FROM 1980 CAN BE TRANSFERED TO LOOK EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS NEW FILMS! As long as the source material was stored properly (which they pretty much all are)

Baraka, 2001, and Blade Runner look better than almost any blu-ray transfered from a film that was shot in the past 10 years.... if any of those looked bad, it would have nothing to do with the fact that they were old movies. Heck, Home Alone is only a few years older than Baraka.

I'm not sure that's a fair comparison considering how Baraka vs Home Alone were originally shot and produced. Different cameras, filmstock, etc.

From what I've read, the softness you see was the filmmaker's intent - to have a look akin to a home movie.

I will go into this viewing with the expectation of having a transfer with more detail that the DVD as well as lossless DTS-MA audio - nothing more.

i see what youre saying. Yes it definitely does look like a home movie similar to that of the dvd counterpart.

There is detail more apparent but i was judging more on the overall Picture look which looks soft like the dvd. Perhaps i was looking at it wrong when the directors intent was to give it a more home movie appearance.

I would probably rate is 3.75 / 5.0 in my opinion though

Your review was sincerely appreciated. I am glad to hear it had some more detail than the SD DVD.

I'm not saying Home Alone should look like any of those films, I'm just saying the AGE of the film doesn't play into the PQ as much as people seem to think......

How the West was Won looks fantastic PERIOD.... not "How the west was won looks fantastic despite being so old"

THAT, is the point I'm trying to convey.

Thanks for the reminder. I meant to pick up this one and Jingle All the Way today when picking up some other blu-ray but completely forgot about them. Maybe I'll try Blockbuster on the way home from work since it's on the way.
