Default Blu-ray future limited?

A spoilsport I know posted this link to me after I told him I'd bought a Blu-ray player

I'd be most interested to have some informed opinions.

For some strange reason,I'm a little reluctant to simply accept a blog entry from some bloke of whom I've never heard.

That was an old, biased article that holds no value. Disregard it and show whoever sent you that article any recent article about how well Blu-ray is doing. This thread needs to be locked before we have another discussion of the same thing again.

Ridiculous. "...up-sampling DVD players dramatically cut the video quality advantage of Blu-ray DVDs" - yeah, maybe on his Philco 17".

Yeah, I just don't know what to say. Obviously people are getting into it now. Sales are up, now Blu-ray disc prices have to come down to help stimulate Blu-ray even more.

Default Ah,ta

That's what I was hoping.Sorry to be such a dill.

That's a problem I have with technology which is new to me:Takes me a while to work out what questions to ask-and as important, what questions NOT to ask.

Thank you for your patience and good humour.

Uh Oh! I'd better unload all of my Blu-rays now while I still can

I mean, we all know that downloads and video on demand killed the DVD industry, right?

Good thing they told me, I can go and find myself a HD VHS and pull out my old VHS tape and be happy

Why is it human nature to always try to destroy new technology? Why so many are so afraid of it and so ready to destroy it? I will never understand it.

What a joke.

Note his article on how he upgraded to a 120 inch screen with a HD front projector and he is loving it.

Way to waste your money.

I am sure upscaled DVDs and those top quality Apple HD low bitrate gimped DLeds look AWESOME on it.

Considering 400GB discs are meant to be compatible with all BD players, I doubt it.

After reading a bunch of the comments, maybe blu-ray is in trouble. Wow, people are ignorant and love to spout off about something they've never researched. This country is full of techno-phobes.

A mobile phone?!? Why would anyone carry a phone around?

Those articles are pure FUD.

Of course the future of blu-ray is indeed limited; after all, there is a finite amount of matter in the universe with which to replicate players and discs.

Default Blu-Xmas

I can't believe I spent time reading that....

And then the HD-DVD guys posting at the bottom - wishing both formats were around (saying that the format war was good!).

Uhg!

Anyway - I disagree with him. This X-mas many of the Joe6pack are jumping in - I've already converted 4 people :-)

My mother-in-law got the Sony 350, my brother got the PS3 (for blu-ray only), my co-worker got the S350 ($179) and another co-worker got the PS3. And I noticed someone at work carrying the S350 around.

All these are Joe Six Pack types - not audio-files --- the war is over and the new format is Blu-ray!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I have so many points as to why this guy is a douche' and wrong!

1. upconvert dvd players have been around for years! my friend got one about 5-6 years ago! they're not a new alternative to HD content in terms of actual quality on a tv over 27"

2. I DO want HD content on DISCS, not downloaded from the web filling up my hard drives

3. Charter communications will have a conniption-fit if i try using that much bandwith downloading HD content

4. Sony DOES rock!

5. BluRay disc burning is awesome! I have a SONY BLURAY BURNER i paid 199$ for, and Nero 8 i paid 99$ for... I've only burned 1 movie on bluray and it works in my friends PS3 just fine, and in my Sony S350 perfectly! i've burnt mostly data discs as mega-backups to test the formats and tech. i love it.

6. i took DVD's about 4 years to actually catch on and become as/more popular as VHS. Betamax? laserdisc? sacd? dvd-audio? there will always be experimental technology, and there will MAYBE always be something there thats better.

i think this guys just a baby and jealous cuz he can't afford a 150$ bluray player for his crt analog tv.

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I was concerned BD won't be around long too, but I just got the Sony 350 last week. I finally made the jump after seeing an industry commercial for BD that mentioned unleashing the power of your HDTV.

The manufactorers are reducing player prices and the studios will follow soon by cutting disc prices. If you spend hundreds or more than a thousand on a TV they is no reason not to make the jump. Plus, the average consumer is not going to download tons of movies onto massive hard drives, well at least not for several years by which time a new technolgy will have replaced BD anyway.
