Default 20th Century Fox is labeling the BLU-RAY discs with incorrect info in terms of specs

20th Century Fox has some amazing BLU-RAY's with high bit rate MPEG-4/AVC but I notice that they are labeling the discs incorrectly in the amount of GB's used. 20th Century Fox automatically labels dual layer discs as 50GB and single layer discs as 25GB under the specification area on the back of the case jacket. All the 20th Century Fox discs that I have seen so far do not use a full 25GB or 50GB like the jacket says. Most single layers are in the 20's and most dual layers are in the low to mid 40's that I have seen from 20th Century Fox.
A much more accurate labeling would be to call the disc a dual layer or single layer and not to list an incorrect automatic 50GB for dual layer and 25GB for single layer. What would even be better is if 20th Century Fox listed the actual GB used. Like say 46.6GB, 43GB, 37GB, etc.
If 20th Century Fox is going to label the discs as 50GB or 25GB then they should use the entire disc for high bit rate video and audio with extras instead of just only using part of the disc.
I could give several examples of movies that are labeled incorrectly but one can easily discover this for themselves by placing the disc in a BD-ROM computer drive to check the actual size of the BLU-RAY disc.

Of course the full amount isn't used. As far as I know, they can't even use the full amount on the discs.

It's the same thing with DVD's. They never used the full 4.5 or 8.5 gigs either.

No need to get on a soapbox about this. They're just saying which type of disc was used. I guarantee you 99% of people don't look at it anyway.

The problem is they say "50GB DUAL LAYER" and "25GB SINGLE LAYER" when they should be saying just "DUAL LAYER" or "SINGLE LAYER". I have never seen a Fox title use the full 50GB or 25GB that is stated on the specs. The Fox titles are still some of the best in picture and sound.

The label is for the disc capacity. If it says 50 GB, it means it's on a 50 GB Dual Layer disc. Nowhere does it state that all 50 GB are used. And honestly, this is a very silly thing to complain about, especially when some other studios don't even list what capacity disc is being used.

I wish that all of the Blu Ray companies would do put as detailed specs as Fox puts on the back. Fox consistantly turns out good encodes of movies and always provides the consumer with DTS MA sound tracks. If you want to get on Fox's case about somthing hammer them on there lack of special features. Please don't nit pick.

If we're going to quibble about Fox's BD documentation, a more relevant target would be the fact that they are consistently showing the incorrect running time on their UK BD releases. They are mindlessly replicating the same time as the corresponding DVD, which of course reflects the PAL speed-up!

frankly I don't care about the disc specifications either.

But let me give you one example of a more confusing labeling problem:

The UK box of PLANET OF THE APES comes only with
ENGLISH DTS HD Master Audio and english subs for the hearing impaired,
if you believe what's written on the box!

But in fact there's german, italiano, spanish, polish, hungarian, scandinavian audio to be found, at least with the first two movies!
Even different commentaries! Plus subtitles for all of them!

Just think how many people don't buy that box because of wrong information!!

I don't get it...

I never even noticed they list the disk size on the back. If the movie looks good I don't care if they used 5 GB or 50 GB of the disk.

Oh PLEASE!

Please tell me which other labels list "the actual GBs used" on the box/case?

You're in the US, right? Be INCREDIBLY grateful that Fox in the US put out wonderfully crafted Blu-Ray titles, with fantastic picture and sound THAT AREN'T MISSING HALF THE BLOODY FEATURES FOUND ON THE EQUIVALENT RELEASE OVERSEAS!!

If you really want something to complain about then come over to Europe and buy some of our neutered Fox Blu-rays and then compare them to the equivalent US versions!

You have it so good in the US, please be grateful of that! Although the US Omen Collection packaging is an abomination and goes against God!

Does the UK Planet of the Apes collection also have English mono tracks for all the movies and theatrical and extended cuts for both Conquest of the Planet of the Apes AND Battle for the Planet of the Apes like the in the US?

If not then Fox UK should be done for continually putting out crappy, half-arsed Blu-ray releases outside the US, that are a pale immitation of the equivalent US releases.

I refuse to buy Fox titles in the UK, until they start treating the UK and European market with some effing respect (which will probably never happen)!!

Who was the bright spark at Fox UK/Europe for example, who decided consumers in the UK and Europe would be happy to lose half the commentary tracks on The Omen? Or the extended cut of Aliens Vs Predator Requiem when the DVD has both cuts in the UK? Or the original mono tracks on the older bond films?

God I hate Fox in the UK!!
