Quick answer: No.

You're not going to get great sound from a soundbar and a small sub like that. It's not going to properly emulate true 5.1/7.1 surround. It may be able to widen the soundfield a bit but don't expect any miracles.

Default It depends on who's listening

If this fits your budget and all it is used for is TV it will do a pretty nice inexpensive job.

Your budget is $700.

You will be AMAZED at what the $350 Audioengines can do. Under $350 considering the discount. You most likely wont need a sub but if you do you can upgrade down the road.

You said "I dont want to be blown away" you wont be, you will be dazzled by how much clear high quality sound can come from two small boxes. Theres a in home trial as well, nothing to lose. Try them out

Forgot to mention that they are active meaning they are self powered you will not need a receiver or amplifier. These would be great to hold you over for a dedicated home theater set up in which case you could use these as computer/bedroom speakers.

Why not get the polk RM6750's $200 about, and a receiver like the Sony 820 or Onkyo 606 that keeps you well below budget ($485 or $456, respecitvely) and is better then an HTiB. Or you can go the route I did and get Sony speakers, CN5000, B1000, F5000 and a Reciever and still be under budget... I sit 6.5 ft from my tv. You can choose whether or not you want to be blown away.

CN5000 $114 amazon
B1000 $65 " "
F5000 $143 " "
SA-w2500 $99 " "

Onkyo 606 $256 (ask driver king, I think ecost.com) Total $677
Sony 820 $285 (Amazon.com) Total $706

Just my $.02

I said it sounds pretty nice, I didn't say 'FANTASTIC' it is a HTiB. I'm not sure which one you have, but mine was 400 watts or something like that.

I'm really saying don't throw your money away on that sound bar.

If I were you, I would try and get a receiver and sub now and use your current speakers(with the volume not to high) until you save again to buy some real speakers.

That way, atleast you will have HD sound. The speaker's that came with the HTiB wasn't that bad, just the receiver was nothing special.

Well, let's seee. What is the model number for your RCA.
Honestly you should have seen my eyes and what I heard when I connected the RCA's to the 605 and played a PCM blu-ray movie.

I was expecting to hear POP... POP.. FEEZZZZ on atleast one of them.

To hear how clear the sound was, I knew I was getting into a good thing.

I ended up taking back the 605 and getting a 805 as you can see from my sig.

Well take your time, it's worth it. This way may be a easier way to deal with it all.

From your sig, you gotta get a blu-ray player also?

Be careful hooking those speakers to a newer amp. Most entry-level receivers can only handle 8ohm speakers, and some HTiB speakers are 4ohms or less. Make sure you check the manual first.
