Default Included DVD copy

Can anyone tell me why DVD copies of BluRay discs aren't included instead of digital copies? I purchased Disney's Sleeping Beauty and it did include the DVD. This was great as we only have one BluRay player in our living room. Does anyone have any info on whether this is going to continue?

I think the consumer would not like because they will think they're getting charged more because it's coming with 2 movie discs, where 1 would be cheaper. While some will understand that there's not an additional charge for a 2nd movie disc, the majority of people will just see it as a way for retailers to charge them more for a title.

Some Blu-ray movies come with a second(or third) disc that has a *Digital Copy* on it - which sucks, honestly!
Use it once and the disc itself is now a throw-away.
Speed Racer comes to mind...
It has three discs in the case, the BD, a game disc and the POS Digital Copy one run throw-away.

It would be better if the included disc was and actual DVD that could be played on non-BD machines.

Guess that would make too much sense though... I doubt it'll ever happen.

I gave the DVD to my little cousin. I've been told she liked it.

I have no idea why a hybrid DVD/BR is needed, as any BR player can play DVD. Maybe I'm just missing something.

Finally, I know they're going to include a DVD copy for the BR release of Pinocchio.

Not that there is anything wrong with this in my opinion.
This is why they don't include a DVD in every blu-ray case. You are essentially getting the movie 2 times. IF you give the DVD to someone else, then that someone else doesn't have to go out and buy the movie as they got your free dvd copy. Which is most likely why they do the digital copy thing. You could also essentially sell your dvd copy, making your blu-ray cheaper for you, but also making it so someone doesn't have to buy the DVD from the manufacturer, hence reducing there profits.

I think there was even some talk with video game manufactures that wanted to put a tax on or surcharge resold used games. So if you played a game you bought used, you couldn't finish the game unless you paid for the extra content or codes to play the final scenes. Tghey felt used video games on the market take profit out of their pockets, because those people are not buying new from them.

I think sleeping Beauty is the only film so far to include an actual bonus DVD copy disc. Looks like Pinocchio from Disney will be doing the same in March.

High School Musical 3 will also include a DVD version of the film.

I think the hybrid is a great idea, because then I can take a movie to a friend or relative's house, who doesn't have a BD player, and still watch the movie.

Including a separate disc with the movie on DVD wouldn't really be something studios would want to do, because then you could just give the DVD away to a friend. Knowing this, the studios might intentionally charge more for it, and that's no fun.

I got my copy of SB for about 25$, and I can see the DVD being benefitial for those who have little kids, or aren't technologically apt.

I would like to see a DVD copy with all Blu's. But. I can understand why the studios would not jump at the idea - people could buy the BR and then sell the DVD on eBay, etc.

Until Blu-ray players are in mini-vans and SUV's, and cheap enough to replace all the DVD's in most people's houses, there will be ongoing demand for DVD's, especially for kid-friendly programming.
