Default Dedicated CD Player Suggestions

I've been looking at the Marantz CC4001 or the CD5001 - I really have no requirements other than to finally be able to enjoy my 80s rock CDs,

Something around $200 is nice - and can play MP3 CDs (I have many of those - I was young, I was foolish! I'm sorry!) - and it doesn't matter if it is 5-disc changer, one-disc, etc.

Suggestions??

I need some great DACs to bring my Whitesnake and Cheap Trick albums to life on my 683s,

Or....at this price is it better to let either of my BR players do the trick? I also have a Philips DVD and PS2 as well.

Bump your price up a bit and look into the Rotel RCD-1072. It retails for $700, but you can get it on Audiogon for under $450.

At $200 I would say let your current componants handle the task. I don't think you're going to find a player in that price range that will significantly improve what you have now.

That's what I was thinking, John. Just wanted to be sure.

I should stop my mind from wandering when clearly I should be focusing on obtaining a plasma first....

When I went to check out the Cambridge Audio 840C and they didn't have it, I did listen to some of the other models. Maybe you'll want to look into them. They do have a $300 model that may interest you. Naturally if you don't mind, do a little window shopping on Audiogon.

JJ, for $200, you can only find dedicated CD changers. For around $400, you can find better quality CD players. My recommendation is get yourself a Vacuum Tube CD player. Pacific Valve has one for less than $400. The other option for $400 is to get a Sony ES CD Changer that also plays SACD. Other options for around $200 are Denon and Yamaha.

With all due respect BD, I wouldn't waste my money at this price point or even slightly more. You're just not going to get the return on investment.

Save your money JJ...

John, you are ruining it. In order to become a member of AVAA, you have to demonstrate a long-term pattern of abuse of your bank account. I was trying to initiate JJ as a new member and you destroyed it.

Well, we could suggest that he get one of these from Esoteric.

Look Rich 3, I don't even OWN any SA-CDs! I don't even want to fathom starting on SA-CD or Vinyl - I'm the type to get carried away!

No, the Burmester CD Player from Germany is around $60,000. It makes Esoteric look cheap. It doesn't even play SACD.

It's products like this that makes this hobby so comical. For that amount of money, you can hire real life musicians to play in your house.

I bet this CDP would sound awesome on some Pear Anjou cables.

You can hire musicians for a week. A lot of them don't make that much money.

I just got a Playstation Model SCPH 1001 (supposedly the highly regarded, high-quality CD player) for $21. I think it sounds better than playing CD's through my PS3. I'm finding myself wanting to play some old games on the PS1 and compare it to playing the same game on the PS3 to see which is better.
