Default Does Playstation 3 has DTS Master, PCM, Dolby HD Codec? With the latest update?

Do I need a receiver in order to enjoy those codec, i notice some 300+ blu-ray player has dts master, dobly hd codec, are they better choice than PS3?

the ps3 decodes all the latest codecs. what is better is a matter of opinion. if your lookinig for a player then i would take a look at your receiver first and match a player to the receiver capabilities

I need help with my PS3 options if it decodes all the latest. I can't only get DTS if I'm lucky. Any website or fourm post that can tell me what is the correct way to tell my ps3 to send out the audio.?

My receiver is a Onkyo TX-SR705. The PS3 is all updated, or at least it says it is. I'll check to see if I have it on PCM. Thanks

don't forget to set audio through 'HDMI' you can't listen to the HD audio through optical.

well first off if you are playing your blurays on your ps3 and expecting your receiver to say "dts-hd master" or "dolby trueHD" this simple will not happen. the ps3 decodes these codecs but outputs it to your receiver as PCM. so on your receiver it will show up as Multi channel PCM or just PCM. just set your ps3 audio settings to LPCM, make sure you are using an HDMI cable and you will have HD audio. if you are really anal about your receiver displaying dts-hd master or trueHD then you should look elsewhere for a bluray player. the ps3 does this, it just wont show on your receiver.

Yes, you can, but you will only get 2 channels, no surround.

Essentially the PS3 is incapable of streaming the DTS-HD MA and TrueHD signals to a receiver, so instead is internally decodes them and sends them to a receiver as PCM. Most receivers will play PCM, which is lossless. So you do not need a fancy receiver to play these formats as long as you are using a PS3.

But yes, it decodes everything. As for optical cables, you can not send certain types of audio through them, regardless of the channels. HDMI is a much better option for both sound and video, but optical does reproduce decent 5.1 sound, but not lossless.

VC-1, H.264 are codecs,
PCM or DTS HD MA are sound formats, the PS3 decodes the main HD souind formats (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, DTS-HD, PCM) but your receiver must be able to play them

This is great, I was thinking of buying the Pioneer 7.1 Channel HDMI Receiver (VSX-1018TXV-K) , but now it doesn't seem that I have too.

What would be a good suggestion for a receiver for my PS3 that play DTS-HD & TrueHD so I don't need to spend $600 bucks!!???

Or if anyone can direct me to the proper forum.
Thanks!
