Default REL T3 Series Subwoofer and subwoofer advice

Hello,
Does anyone know anything about REL subwoofers? I am trying to find a subwoofer with a small footprint and an acquaintance of mine recommended the REL T3 series subwoofer. I found the REL website and the subs are made in the UK and the price of the T3 is approx $550. Does anyone have any experience with or know anything about REL subwoofers?

I was originally looking at the SVS SB12-Plus, but it costs a little more than I originally wanted to spend.

All the others that I looked at were too big (AV123, ED A2-300, and all the SVS subs).

Rel T3 seres or SVS SB12-Plus? Or any other recommendations? I have been pondering this decision since April, so I am ready to buy.

Thanks.....

REL subwoofers are considered to be very beautiful and high quality. Read reviews:

I've only ever heard one model and it was very good. A friend lent me his to try when i first considered adding a sub to my set up.

The model i spent time with really excelled with music, adding so much depth. It really surprised me how deep it went due to the small footprint. They're very flexible in the way they can be hooked into a system which makes integration very easy.

There are other subwoofers out there that have a small foot print. The Rel is considered more of a musical subwoofer and I like that, but not sure what purpose (music, movies or both) you might want the sub for. Rel is said to have good bass output but it is considered to not be the best choice for home-theater only duty. Not my opinion, but some Rel owners of have told me this when I was looking at them. I only wanted a sub for watching movies and not music.

Ultimately I went with a Earthquake Audio Supernova MKV 12. It has plenty of low bass output and can bring down the house. More output than I was actually prepared for. This sub has a smallish footprint and has a remote to help adjust the volume level from your seat. It does go deep !!!

If you are not worried about buying a gently used sub, Earthquake audio subs can be had on Audiogon ranging from a few hundred dollars up to fifteen hundred or so. They come in various sizes and finishes so price reflects that. They also make a model called "Mini Me", might interest you as well. Rel's can be found used as well for cheaper than MSRP.

Here is a review of a Earthquake Audio Supernova 15" model.

There are reviews of the "Mini Me's" out there if you want to look, and also we have a "Subwoofer Manufacturer's List" thread here if you want to take a peek at that.

You may find that the Rel is just what you are looking for and maybe not.

If the REL is better known for musicality, would it be a good choice for someone who will use it 50% home theater and 50% music?

And why is there very little traffic on this forum about REL subwoofers?

Of course you would have to incorporate it into your system and give it a spin, but yeah I would say it is a a fine dual duty sub.

There is very little traffic on many other brands as well. Gotta remember this is a "Blu-ray" site first so most people only come here for Blu-ray related equipment, etc.... although we do talk about all things home theater it is mostly about Blu-ray. More and more people are joining but try AVS if you need to talk it out with Rel owners.
