Exclamation How do i download the latest Denon firmware?

Hi All,

Ive just recently been in touch with Denon requesting the latest firmware for the 2500bt bluray transport, they sent me the link for it so i downloaded etc but when i extract the files from the zip it just comes up as a "bin" file & im unable to burn it to disc.

When i used to own a Pioneer bluray player, when i downloaded there firmware & extracted the files from the zip it came up as an "iso to burn" & it was just straight forward.

So whats this "bin" file? How do i burn the firmware to disc?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Happy new year to you all

There should have been a .bin and a .pdf file included in the .zip file. The .pdf file has instructions on pgs 5-9 on how to burn the CD and perform the upload.

What version did Denon send you?

The latest firmware available on Denon's website for this player is version 1.104. You can download this firmware via the following link:

http://usa.denon.com/DVD-2500BTCI_1104.zip

If for some reason you received a newer version of the firmware from Denon you can still use those instructions to perform the update.

EDIT: Oops ... I just realized your in England. However, the instructions should be similar. I'd give those a shot and let us know if they work.

Hi rdodolak

The version Denon sent me was 1113 , so its probably just a different one for here in England.
Anyway, i downloaded the version you gave me via that link & thanks as i got the instructions as they must be all the same, so thats been very helpful thankyou !

However, i cant still seem to be able to burn the firmware to disc im following the instructions but still no joy.
So i think ill get Denon to just send me it via the post, be easier, ha

Thanks again mate

Jase,

What software burning program are you using? Are you receiving any errors? What the make and model of your CD/DVD burner?

A good and free program, called ImgBurn, can be downloaded from http://www.imgburn.com

EDIT: Can you post the steps you are taking when trying to burn the disc. It could be helpful in identifying the issue.

Hello again rdodolak,

The burning programme that im using is "express burn" thats working fine, i havnt a problem with that however, when i extracted the files from the "zip" file it comes out as a "bin" file & not an "iso" ! (iso is what ive been used to with the pioneers)

When i then click on the "bin file" my computers telling me that im unable to open this file & that i have to find a programme to do so? It then tells me to either select my own programme to try & open the file or to search the internet to find a programme to open it?

Ive tried that but then it says i need a licence etc?

So basically mate, i cant get the contents of the bin file in order to be able to burn the firmware to disc.

Now with the pioneer firmware it was straight forward, i just unzipped the file out came the "iso" clicked on burn & away i went, no problems at all ! But with Denons its coming up as a bin file (as ive mentioned) but i cant get the contents as ive stated above

So do you have any further advice rdodolak?

Jase,

An .iso is a file which contains the exact image of a disc (e.g. data files, file structure, boot info, etc). The .bin file format is a single binary file that is commonly used when manually updating firmware (e.g. you'll see this format used quite often for wireless routers, etc).

Express burn only has a 14 day trial limit and it sounds like the trial time has past. You can download a decent but free program called BurnAware Free. You can download this program via the following link:

http://www.download.com/BurnAware-Fr...dlPid=10994221

After installing the software and opening the program you can follow these steps to burn the file:
  1. On the left hand side click on Compact Disc and then select Create Data CD
  2. On the right hand side, click on Add Files. A popup window will appear and you can navigate to file the .bin file, click on it to highlight the file, and click the Add button. Now click on the OK button. The previous popup window will close and you should now see the one .bin file listed.
  3. Press F10 on the keyboard to access the Compilation Properties. On the Burn tab, check the Finalize Disc (No further writing possible) and the Verify data on disc after burning options. Next, click on the File System tab and select ISO. Under File System select ISO 9660, select Mode 1 for Data Mode, and select Level 1 for ISO Level. Finally, click on the OK button.
  4. NOTE: The Denon instructions are a bit confusing if not contradictory. The .bin file is 14 chars long yet Denon states to use Level 1/Mode 1 (otherwise the procedure will fail) which will truncate the file name to 8 chars. They then state to make sure to use long filenames (otherwise the procedure will fail) It can't be both ways and in the examples provided by Denon on pages 8-9 the .bin files being used are only 8 chars (not 14 chars as found in the provided .bin file) long. I'm wondering if they simply reused an older doc? You may need to select Level 2 (31 Chars) for the update to work.
  5. Press F7 on the keyboard to access the Preferences. Check the Set write speed before burning option and click OK.
  6. Make sure you have a CD-R/CD-RW in the disc drive and click on the Red button in the upper right corner of the screen to burn the disc.
  7. A Write Speed box will pop up. Set the write speed to the lowest possible setting (2x ?) and click OK.
  8. Once the disc is burned, you should see the lone .bin file on the disc. If you go into Exploxer, right click on the drive and select Properties you should see that there is zero free space (in other words the disc has been finalized).

Are the instructions with the European firmware any different than those included with the US variant? Let us know how the update procedure goes!
