When using my Vaio's HDMI output to my 16:9 plasmaTV, the picture on the TV is cropped on each side (not to mention the black bars on the top and bottom). Is there a way to "max" the picture?
I am using the Intervideo v8, which does have a "Smart Stretch" feature to 16:9 and Pan-Scan ability. But, when playing BD, the "Smart Stetch" features are locked and I cannot modify them. I'm not sure that this feature would fix the problem here though. Can anybody advise on a solution? Would different DVD software assist in any way? Thank you |

nVidia?
Right click the screen in a blank area and select Properties - while the TV is connected. Slide the resolution slider all the way to the right. Mine had started at default of 1280x1024(something like that), sliding to 1920x1080 made everything right. Click Yes to keep it at 1920x1080 or it will revert back. *ALSO* Be sure to select HDMI Only with Fn + F7! ![]() |

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try and reports back (although I thought I had tried this previously).
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW270J/W; if your nVidia question was regarding the graphics card - Specs note: Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with Intel® Clear Video Technology. Thanks again |

No luck! The Vaio recognizes the TV as being 1080p and the settings are set properly. But, it still is cropped. It's not cropped on the Vaio screen, jut on the TV. I can live w/it, but it's costing me a lot of size.
Any other tips would be great! Thank you! |

Usually, when connecting a laptop to a separate monitor, the laptop's screen rez has to be changed so the picture fills the separate monitor. I know everything says 1080p but try changing the rez on your laptop (up or down). It works on other stuff so maybe this too. Never know.

Cropped on the sides, the VAIO is probably not sending 1920x1080(or whatever the set's native 16:9 resolution is) to the set - mine defaults to a 4:3 screen res(more or less square).
I have to open nVidia Control Center and select the TV and move the slider to 1920x1080 - THEN BE SURE TO CLICK YES - or it will reset back to it's 4:3 resolution. ![]() |

I hear ya guys. I actually get different results on 2 different TVs with the same settings. 1920x1080 is set. On one TV where I get rid of the "side bars", it's still in widescreen (top and bottom bars), which I can live with. On the other, no luck. I'll continue to play with it and see if I can get the other to work. If so, I'll let you know how I was able to get it to work. Thanks to both of you for your help!
