Default Lost : Disney vs Buena Vista

I bought Lost season 3 and 4. I bought the season 3 from my local store in Quebec, and the season 4 on ebay, from a seller from Ontario.

I think the canadian release is from Buena Vista, and the USA release is from Disney, is there any differences in the PQ or AQ ? i've noticed they are listed with the very same specification, so i guess there is no difference at all from those studio release ?

Thx !!!

Buena Vista and Disney are part of a conglomerate. I don't think it matters which company logo is tagged onto the packaging. Both companies would be using the same company to encode/program their discs. So, the end result should be identical.

That's not technically correct but, with respect to the OP's question, I wouldn't be worried.

Disney owns Buena Vista. So they are one in the same.

I will limit myself to the topic at hand (i.e. as related to movies)
Buena Vista is (was?)the name of the distributor arm of Disney (I think they might have renamed it recently- if so things may change with time), Disney is one of the studios.

so lost will have BV or BVHE but not Disney because it is not from Disney studio but ABC.

But since the conglomerate that owns it all is also has Disney in the name most just call it Disney

Buena Vista Home Entertainment is the video distributor for Disney, which apparently will be renamed Disney at some point in the future

Viacom and Disney have both moved their TV product from CBS/ABC respectively into their own lables, and transferred their TV assets there, which is why Lost 4 is under ABC Studios. Star Trek will also be under CBS, even though it was aired on NBC

The same stuff is also happening with Uni doing their TV under NBC Universal

It's all the same, it's simply them segmenting their catalog and keeping TV in the TV family and movies in the movie family

Yes it is.

Walt got pissed off by RKO's high handed treatment once too often, so he and Roy formed their own distribution company, Buena Vista, named after the street running by the new Disney Studios. The first film released under the Buena Vista baner won an Academy Award (Walt's nature film Seal Island)

Buena Vista = Disney.

RKO = historical cinema factoid.

You've proven my point. Disney and Buena Vista are NOT the same company. A distinction without a difference? Maybe.

Not maybe. The Buena Vista distribution arm of the Disney company isn't a "different company" -- it's like an appendage. It's as separate from the company as your arm is separate from you, or your leg or your foot. Without Disney's distribution arm, no films would reach the theaters. In the distant past, other studios such as RKO and United Artists released films for Disney, just as Disney's Buena Vista released films made by PIXAR (except Disney was a production partner with PIXAR, but never mind). RKO angered Walt by fighting him over his elaborate plans for Fantasia, and they refused to release "Seal Island", which led Walt Disney to break from RKO completely and form their own internal release arm.

This is a quote from the Disney website.

As one of the largest divisions in the Walt Disney Company and also one of the largest revenue-generating divisions, Buena Vista Home Entertainment continues to legitimize home video as an art form in and of itself, not just as a natural stage in the life of a theatrical release.

Buena Vista is to Disney as Chevrolet is to GM.
