Possibly Heaven Can Wait which is a remake of Here Comes Mr. Jordan. However, the remake may not be as good as the original.

John Carpenter's The Thing.

No other remake is even in the same league.

The Fly or King Kong but, there are some films in the list that should not be there.
Batman Begins is not a remake, much less TDK as a remake of the Joker/Batman fight. I think you are strecthing there a bit.

Also Star Wars IS NOT a remake of the Hidden Fortress. While it is heavily influenced by that film, it is not a remake.

I watched some interviews. Where he said just that. More than one interview actually.

As for Batman, using the same myth led to the comparison. But we're in rare territory here. Where a comic book reboot is superior to the original. Also: due to popular demand and convention: Nolan had to tread over Burton territory: due to what was expected (to be there). So respectfully, it is a remake: given the nature of the legend.

The Dark Knight (2008) redoes that classic Joker/Batman match-up. The same themes (direct from the comic, I know) come out with some very similar patterns with (given) added nastiness. Nolan takes some liberties. But that same territory is being re-trod, retaken. Because he had no choice.

I don't really have any idea what Airplane! was a remake of it, but it got my vote (because it spoofed Airport, I'm guessing...think that was the movie). I have absolutely no clue what Titanic is a remake of, but if I could have justified it being called a remake, it would have gotten the vote. Either way, they're two of the best movies in that list.

And I'm still not sure what many of those movies are doing in the list.

I always thought that Escape From LA was a remake not a sequel to Escape From New York.

Good one. I thought of that. I almost put that down. But I didn't want to get crucified. And I had to stop some time.

It has the same theme, the same formula, the same delimma with a different twist (..fake threat), the same mission, and like N.Y. he messes with the Pres once again. Yes, L.A. was a remake.

Darn, I should have put it down. Oh well.

So we are talking remake as in not strictly film remakes? Like a film re-making a comic book? From that perspective I could understand what your saying. But I'm not sure. Just because the Joker/Batman thing was done in a previous movie doesn't mean its a remake of that film in particular. I do understand your reasoning though.

A New Nightmare is a sequel or maybe re-imagining. Damn good besides the ending.

Someone will undoubtedly give me the stinkeye for saying so, but I really like the Dawn of the Dead remake.

And yes, there's a few titles on the poll that can only dubiously be called remakes.
