Question Onkyo 706 for 806

ok, i have an Onkyo 706 i bought 2 weeks ago.
paid a pretty penny for it 628.88 from brandsmart(before tax)

well before you respond im going to return it & get my money back as i saw an Onkyo 806 for 620 @ amazon
what about an onkyo 805?

my question is are there any over heating issues with the 806/805 or anything i should be worried about?

im pretty happy with the 706 but for the same price i can upgrade(while waiting a week between systems) then i dont mind.

some insight would be appreciated

OR is there another receiver for about 625 or so that would be highly recommended?

I'd get the 806 since it's the same price, actually lesser than what you paid for the 706. I own one (check pics) and I think it's wondeful. So many features for a great price. And with my unit, there is no over heating problems.

As for the 805, good luck finding one if you decide to go that route.

I would recommend the Denon's but if you have a Sony LCD, there will be audio and video dropouts (I tried both the 2309CI and the 2809CI before going back to the 806 (Onkyo finally fixed the problems).

The 805 seems more sought after than the 806, but the 806 is still a good receiver. The 805 has a better power supply and weighs something like 20 pounds more. I think you can expect the 805 to run a good bit hotter than the 806 from what I've read though.

If you can get a 805 then I would try to get one if not the 806 is a killer receiver.I have a 805(see my ht pics) and I love it, I have had no over heating problems at all,Ive never noticed it getting hot or anything out of the ordinary, We use it all the time between games( my wife is addicted to guitar hero and plays it like all day long.)and movies. No problems at all , Strongly recommended.

I have my 805, about 6 months old. I might be buying a Marantz 6003, keep your eye on the trade forum.

From what I've seen, the 805's run hot. If you have an open space for it, then no problem. If it's enclosed, then plan on ventilating it with fans or look elsewhere.

Very few owners report 806's running hot. Mine didn't. Possible blue dots if you have 1080p display, although I've read there is a fix now.

6ave.com has the Denon 2309CI for $636.75 or Marantz SR5003 for $599.25 with coupon: AFLAUD25

I read in a pro review that the Marantz doesn't upscale well, but power output was very good.

Why? You'd be downgrading power wise. You can use the pre-outs on the 805 with a separate amp too you know.

Better overall sound quality, I'm looking at a Marantz 6003 for HT then adding a Naim Nait 5i integrated (has HT bypass) for my 2ch gear.

my main concern was overheating
it seems like the 806 doesnt have that

does the 806 get that "blue dot" on a 1080p tv?
id NEVER use the receiver upscaling and set my video to "through"

Some of the newer models don't have the blu-dot issue and the last batches coming from the factory have an HDMI board hardware mod.

The 805 runs hot, it does not "overheat", any unit that puts out that kind of power will have heat radiating from it heh.

I know it won't over heat, but I'm more aware to turn it off than leave it on perse. I was just curious because BUBBASAX420 said his doesn't get hot.

DonRSD: Some 806s with the HDMI set to "thru" will still get the Blue dot issue. it's not a matter of thru or video processing, it's just that the 806 crushes the blacks, thus producing blue-dots. And it's all in the HDMI board.

No it gets warm but not hot to the touch, But it is all by itself with plenty of air around it on the bottom of my tv stand, No other components are around it. Maybe thats why it doesn't get hot to the touch just warm(check pics in my ht).

Huh, mine is completely in the open...It's sitting on a chair right now until I can find a temporary stand. Check my HT pics and it's on a chair in front of that "hole" where my old reciever used to be.

Ok for those of you worried about the Blue-Dot issue:

I too was looking for a reciever less than a month ago, and did A LOT of research on Onkyo's, Pioneer's, Yammy's, and Denon's. The one AVR that kept coming back to me *"It's all coming back to me now!!!"* any way- was the Onkyo 806. But that Blue-dot issue really bothered me considereing I didn't want it onced I upgraded my display. So I did a lot of research on the solutions and problems with the Blue-dot display. I posted a thread a couple weeks back about it, go ahead and take a look at it. Again, it's subjective and I CAN NOT claim that this is true in the States, but Onkyo EUR is aware of the problem...just read.

HMM maybe it is just a difference of opinion on what is hot, Maybe they are outputting the same amount of heat and i think it is just warm to the touch and not hot, It is a bad ass receiver that puts out some great sound and power and if it gets hot or warm it is understandable but i have never thought that it was hot to the touch, have you ever had any problems with it??

Yeah...agreed. Enough of this crap. We have enough of it already.

So my vote goes to the 806 over the 706. 805s are hard to get your hands on and will cost you pretty penny "new" at this point.
