Is there any possibility of having video games on the Playstation 3 be stored on rewritable BD-ROM discs, so that developers may use the rewritable aspect to allow the video game(s) to act as their own personal "memory cards"?

Interesting thought but I'd be quite surprised if memory cards didn't remain separate from the disc. If rewriteable discs were used for games I'm sure stores would have people wanting to exchange their discs because some of them would accidentally erase the game itself. That'd create a big hassle for manufacturers and retails I'm sure.

The Playstation 3 will be using high-capacity memory sticks, encoded with MagicGate just the current PS2 ones are. The problem is that these sticks will also be serving as portable HDDs, on which not only saved data will be stored but also everything else such as downloadable content. Who is to say a gamer would want to use the same stick for every gaming scenario? Maybe some people would just rather be able to change the stick without having to worry about corrupting their game data (so they can change soundtracks or something). Having BD-RW discs and a burning feature on the PS3 only creates more opportunities for developers. It would obviously be more challenging, but it's still just an opportunity (read: not required). The only problem that would come from all of this is the fact that a large portion of the gaming community is based on selling/trading games for other ones.
Microsoft is going to quickly close the gap that exists between them and Sony if Sony doesn't start to deliver more features other than just "play game", "watch movie", and "listen to music". The XBox 360, for example, has the Marketplace feature. It seems to me as though Sony is focusing more on power and design, instead of innovation and development. |

No, Sony wants to promote their memory stick duos, like the PSP is currently doing. I thought that this move was good because their memory sticks works with the PSP and their cameras and also holds data, like MP3's, photos, videos, etc.
