You might want to go into more detail on that. Which movies, all the time or just at certain points? If it's at certain times, is it always at the same time during repeated viewings?

I haven't had this problem at all thus far. I've got about 15 BD movies, and I've watched many of them multiple times, so I can't help much.

I think he means grain. At this point I think we need a sticky about it along with the black bars one.

My PE had this effect in two different spots, both of the shots with the waterfalls, it only happened on that part. It is just like snow, where it seems that certain pixels blink rapidly with the color the shot should be and then in white. It seems to be a interlacing problem, I'm not sure because it seems to flicker alternately with the scan lines in 1080i. I have noticed this as well on some Blu-ray and theatrical trailers that are 1080p from PSN. My TV only goes up to 1080i.

Depends on the film really. Some are grainier than others. Also there might be variation in grain in the same film depending on the scene.

Blu-ray can be so clear, that you can easily tell how different shots where filmed at different times and film stocks/lighting/camera apertures/focus errors etc which, theater projection and SD dvds tend to smooth out with their lower sharpness contrast or resolution

Maybe Hollywood should start filming again in 70mm to prevent HT "nitpickers" from picking up all their warts!

(mmm.. 70mm would also fit 1080p better as it's 2.20 wide..)

I haven't watched PE on BD, but maybe the white flicker at waterfalls is the mist? Just throwing it out there. I haven't kept up on this issue, but people w/ 1080p TVs say it's not a problem, I'm guessing?

One movie in which I could tell a grain difference was Casino Royale, and I'm not including the opening scene. As you say, Dec, w/ lighting and all that, I could tell differences between indoor and outdoor shots. You could also see differences between Tokyo and the other two settings in Babel, although I attribute that to the director's desire.

It's not the resolution problem, immature guy.

It is the recording of the movie. You jack up the brightness setting in the recording the movie will look grainy. Using better equipped hardware with good settings will remove this. CR for example, is uber superb. There is virtually zero graininess. It is not all about film resolution size that does everything, you ________.

Seriously... who does this guy think he is? Coming up into threads and insulting the almighty master Deci? At least get some tenure first before attempting to step on someone's balls.

I was at the Sony Center, where we watched Casino Royale scenes on a ps3, and on a tiny little blu ray player. At first, on the little one, and it was grainy- very grainy. The shop assistant said the had problems with the little player.

However, on a X-series Bravia with a ps3 connected, there was no such grain.

I tend to think this has nothin to do with the movie? I am very, very sure I specifically noted the grainy stuff on the louzy Blu player.

I'm not exactly sure about this....because I have a whole new set setup with my TV being sony etc. etc. and some films are just grainier than others for me...

there could be several reasons for what you saw and maybe the TV was used/abused more than the other?..
