Default Are You Utilizing Your BD Player For SD Upconversion?

Assuming folks had another solution before BD players became available, perhaps you may still be using that instead?

Just curious on what your upscaling solution is at this point for SD DVD?

I still rent DVD's from blockbuster and watch those on my standalone blu-ray players and ps3. I also have several upconverting dvd players, but they don't get used nearly as often, only on other region dvd's as they are region-free players.

I use my S350 to watch DVDs in my bedroom but I have a different upconverting player in my rooms with PS3s. I've just never thought the dvd picture was good with a PS3.

We still have a ton of kid DVDs that we play through our BDP-S550; it does a great job of upscaling. Our living room ("home theater") DVD player/recorder barely gets used anymore except for recording from DVR to DVD.

PS3 upscales better than my OPPU DVD player. I think most do.... should be fine and should not need a seperate dvd player for that.

I use my Sony BDP350 and my XBOX 360 HD DVD Player.......The xbox upscales better than the sony IMO. But hey, a movie is a movie and love to watch movies so it doesn't really matter what DVD player I use

Absolutely, but only if I do not have a Blu-ray disk to watch! It does a great job.

In my home theater room I use the PS3 for all movie viewing, so it handles DVD upscaling for me. In my 2 channel listening room, my Yamaha DVD-S2500 handles DVD upscaling.

For every pixel of a dvd there are six on blu-ray. To make up for that DVD upconverters use advanced algorithms to interpolate the color of those six pixels from the one pixel they have information on and any surrounding pixels. Some advanced upconverters with also use the information from the frames before and after to make a more accurate guess.

It works well enough on my S350 to get me by for those DVDs in my collection that have not been released yet on Blu-ray. Some DVDs upscale better than others. It seems. LOTR 1 - 3 is a good example. The PQ isn't HD, but it is a noticeable improvement over SD. Despite the fairly good upscaling of my stand alone, I don't watch DVDs very often now that my BD collecion is expanding.

Yep, the PS3 does a decent job, but I kept my Pioneer DVD player hooked up as well.

I have far more DVDs than BDs at this point, and I use my Sony BDP-S350 to play them all. It does a fine job of upscaling. Prior to my 350, I had a Sony upscaling DVD player which worked very well. Now, it's packed away in its original carton and packing, like new.

Will probably own DVDs for quite awhile yet as many DVD titles will have to wait for a BD release. I'll be upscaling them for quite some time yet, I'd assume!

Might wanna read around for PS3 settings, there's no way the 350 does a better job when the PS3 is setup properly. Unless you just like added noise...

My PC kicks ace upconverting DVD's. Even better than my $600 video processor.

I can't comment on a 350, but as far as the PS3 upconverting goes, it's average at best IMO.
