Default Disney Channel (read before posting)

I'm not an obsessed Disney fan at all but it often surprises me how many people are completely negative about it. I really just watch High School Musical and Hannah Montana. I've seen other shows and yes, they all have cheesy moments and most of them aren't really worth seeing.

That being said it's harmless entertainment and they have good morales.

So where does the hatred come from? Maybe...

1. Merchandising - Disney really milks they're cash-cows to the last drop. It's annoying but I don't see why it should cause much negativity.

2. Pop - Lately Disney shows are music-centric. The people either sing on the show or have musical careers. Personally I love pop and while not all Disney pop is good (Demi and Miley are best) you can always not listen to it.

3. Fans - I'm sure some people might be negative about stuff purely because someone annoying they know likes it. I've done that myself. The reason I didn't like Scarface is probably because people quoted it to death before I even seen it.

Even with all of that and me admitting most of the shows aren't that good, I get bothered when people HATE stuff without really giving it a chance. Opinions?

Please post thoughtfully...

I know that Disney is responsible for the worst pandemic to ever hit our country. The "princess" syndrome. All girls now expect to never have to do anything, and be waited on 24/7. Where did they learn this? Disney, with all their "princess" shit they push everywhere, on top of the tv shows and movies. Now with Hanna Montanna, it's even worse, because every little girl is growing up, obsessed with a spolied, barely talented Princess in the limelight. The Princess Syndrome pandemic is only going to get worse from here, and it's solely blamed on Disney.

My daughter watches Disney Channel all the time. Occasionally, when she leaves the room, I am too lazy to change the channel and keep watching Disney. It is reasonably entertaining and mostly harmless. Although at times it is almost oppressively politically correct.

I don't think Disney can be blamed for the "princess syndrome". I suspect the "princess syndrome" is probably due to the large number of educated well-off people who have only one or two children later in life.

Right, um, yeah, okay. Maybe instead of blaming Disney you should put the blame where it actually belongs, with the parents. If the parents were doing their job, it wouldn't matter what message Disney or any other media outlet was putting out.

And really the "princess" syndrome seems to more come from the media's obsession with showing all of the outrageous exploits of rich trash skanks like Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie and Lindsay Lohan.

Counter-Answer: And some people have IQs lower than that of maggots, and like a maggot, they will digest and infest every piece of excrement that comes sliding out of the Disney tweener corporate poop chute.

More like I'm just amazed that people claim Disney is ruining the youth/entire world.

I think overall what annoys people might be Disney's type of humor. A lot of the time it's not funny and it's cheesy. It's probably a result of Disney trying to imitate Nickelodeon and now Nickelodeon imitates Disney (i.e. iCarly, pretty decent show but tries too hard to be random).

One thing I don't like about Disney is, at least with Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place, the friendships aren't realistic.

HM started great but quickly Miley Stewart became constantly rude and belittling to Lily. The movie is supposed to be her finding her way again so maybe they realized it.

WOWP is REALLY bad. Alex has never been remotely kind to her best, and seemingly only, friend Harper. All she does is cut her down. The show in general is not made that well so despite Selena Gomez being attractive (I'm 18, I can say that =P) I can't watch it.

So overall Disney Channel is definitely not as good as the old Disney. Honestly it will probably get worse because, though Demi Lovato is a kick ass person/singer, she can't act. Jonas Brothers can't either. They both have shows now and I've already seen Demi's (Sonny With A Chance) and it's pretty bad.

So my point is that it can be bad but people just go WAY overboard with the negativity. Maybe it's not as good to raise your kids on as the older shows were but it's not like TV should be raising kids anyways.

The "media" is only obsessed with making money. If there wasn't a demand, they wouldn't be supplying it.

should the fault be placed on Disney or weak parents?

I just think the shows are garbage. I remember when the Disney Channel was actually the Disney Channel, and they weren't in a deathmatch with Nickelodeon, and they showed actual WALT Disney films...then slowly, these got shoved into late night, then shoved into the graveyard hours, and now they aren't shown at all, and the channel is littered with commercials and low-production-value tweener-oriented garbage. HSM was awful. Hannah Montana awful. Even Stevens, whatever the hell that show was with the rich aryan twins -- garbage. Walt Disney won Emmy's for his TV shows. The Mickey Mouse Club was astonishing for it's time. I think the Disney Channel as presently constituted is an embarassment. And the parade of former Disney Channel stars who have gone on to become the skank ho and slut du jour grows longer by the day.
