Default Sony STRDG or Onkyo TX-SR

I was wondering, which receiver if the best between the Sony STRDG and the Onkyo TX-SR.
I see there's a difference of 300$ between each (the sony is the cheapest) but for quality, are they the same of the onkyo is really that better?

And in the spec I often see something like : 105 Watts X 7 Amplifier Power (8 ohms, 1Khz, 1.0% THD) or the samething but with 0.08%

What is the % ?

I just notice that the Onkyo output at 1080i (if I have read correctly) is it true or can it output at 1080p ?

It can output 1080p if the original source is 1080p.

That % is THD, which stands for Total Harmonic Distortion. 1% is terrible. Anything below 0.09% is considered to be inaudible.

$300 difference between each? You have to list specific model numbers to compare. Right now, you are only listing the "line" of receivers.

Believe it stands for "Total Harmonic Distortion" ... ie, how much it's going to distort. Lower= better, and the Sony's is kind of high, honestly.

*edit* lol, I had brought this up earlier and walked from my desk. Didn't realize it had already been answered.

There is a $300 difference in those 2 receivers? I thought the Onkyo was around $500 and the Sony a little less?

I hate Sony receivers. I had one. It was a POS. They publish these lofty numbers they never come close to and their performance and build quality is sh!t.

Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer are the three I would be looking at in the $500 range.

I have made some more search and seems the sony is not that good

And now a friend told me that Yamaha are really good... there's just too many choice and hard to get something I will not regret

Go with Onkyo, Sony has terrible RMS output rates at high volumes. It goes anywhere from 55W out of 140W for the Sony to 120W out of 180W for the Onk. (just to compare)

Finally I completly changed my mind, I wasn't able to find any receiver in canada at a good price, and I have found a Yamaha HTR6150 for 259$ CAN on futureshop, so I have decide to order this one
Now I must find some good speaker/sub to go with it
