My cable box displays "Alt" and I get no picture...any tips? - Blu-ray Forum

Last night it wouldn't DVR "Lost" or "CSI: NY" -- said "cable channel is unavailable." So I unplugged it, plugged it back in, and it read "boot" and then "Alt". It's stuck on "Alt", and I get no picture.

Any suggestions?

I have the same cable box and never received that error, but I have Time Warner Cable.

Other than unplugging it and the Modem and waiting 20 minutes before plugging them back in, I would have to say call the cable company.

Is your internet hooked up also by cable? Do you have service on it?

Your cable could have gone out. REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY TELL YOU ONE THE PHONE HAVE THE COMPANY SEND SOMEONE OUT.

I was told that there was a cable outage for FIVE DAYS before they sent someone to my house who told me that they had accidentally cut the wrong wire when they disconnected a neighbor.

Definitely have internet (via cable) and cable in the other rooms that don't have that particular box.

Cable peeps are coming tomorrow afternoon; but I don't want to miss March Madness in HD, or The Office, or 30 Rock.

Man, what a terrible, terrible life.

try holding down the power button on the actual box until it says "boot" again (maybe around 10 seconds at most), release it, and let it restart. if boot doesn't even come up then

Just got the call from my wife --- cable box is working again. Suddenly and unexpected.

This is good news. I told her we no longer have to sell the children, and I will finally do the things she wants to in the bedroom.

Is it possible its veiwing a Alternative Universe when set to alt and in the Alternate universe the channel does not exist?

Not sure odd glad you got it fixed.

It's entirely possible. I know it felt like an alternate universe when I didn't have March Madness in HD.
