United Kingdom Motorstorm: Arctic Edge will significantly push PSP

http://psp.nowgamer.com/news/318/arc...antly-push-psp

Quote:
Motorstorm: Arctic Edge will significantly push the PSP's hardware according to BigBig, but the dev says we still haven't seen everything Sony's handheld is capable of

"MotorStorm: Arctic Edge really does push the machine," game director Richard Ogden told NowGamer. "We’ve got more physics and damage and destruction going on than most other games on the system. As to whether there’s more that can be squeezed out; most definitely. We’ve been working with the hardware now for a good few years and we’re still finding ways that we can squeeze more out of it."

Ogden also told us that Arctic Edge will bring the "full Motorstorm experience" to the PSP, despite the hardware disparity between Sony's handheld and its PS3 big brother.

"As long as you take a sensible view on what you’re trying to achieve then there aren’t really any major constraints when translating a PS3 game to PSP," he said. "The main area to deal with is the graphics and visuals – we have to use lower resolution textures and less polygons in our models, but in such a way that it’s still going to look great on the small screen. Really, nothing else needs to be compromised that much, at least not in the player’s perception of the final product."

Check back soon for the full Motorstorm: Arctic Edge interview.

Sweeeeet. Right now my only 3 PSP games are FF7:CC, FF1, and R&C: SM. This would be a definite #4.

Why no love for God of War: Chains of Olympia?

Anyway, this title looks very promising!

Default MotorStorm Arctic Edge - on platform power, icy physics, and new vehicles

Quote:
MotorStorm moves from the mountainous tropical paradise of Pacific Rift to the snowy cliffs of MotorStorm: Arctic Edge. PocketGamer sat down with Richard Ogden of BigBig Games and talked about how the steps they took to bring a PS3 franchise to the PlayStation's less-powerful brothers - the PSP and PS2.

As far as development was concerned, Ogden said that they did try to keep the feel as intact as they could. Naturally, the power disparity between the platforms played a major factor. "From the beginning of development, it's been our ambition to bring MotorStorm across to the PSP completely intact," he said. "We've had to compromise a little, but this is done under the bonnet and players shouldn't really perceive the difference."

For Arctic Edge, Ogden revealed that there will definitely slippery ice to drive on, but they've provided players a few ways around it, such as studded or spikey tires. "...you find that they actually have a lot of grip," he said. "So, these surfaces won't feel too different, at least for some of the vehicles."

It wouldn't be MotorStorm if you couldn't crash into the wall and get yourself screwed up bad. Luckily, they didn't forget to build on that. Plus we'll have two new vehicles to go and throw off a cliff - the Snowcat and Snow Machine. "The Snow Machine is one of the lighter vehicles but has a track and skis instead of wheels. It'll be pretty effective on the snow. The Snow Cat is more a rival to the Big Rig and will perform well on any surface."

So far, Ogden can't talk about DLC nor give a more specific release date than the autumn release margin. But since 30 people have been working on this game for 15 months, that shouldn't be much of a problem.

Default MotorStorm: Best looking PSP game ever?

http://www.videogamer.com/news/motor...game_ever.html

Quote:
The PSP has shown itself to be a very capable handheld games console, with the likes of God of War: Chains of Olympus and Resistance Retribution demonstrating the kind of visuals it can pump out. MotorStorm: Arctic Edge developer BigBig Studios, however, hopes its game will trump them all.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com last week, game director Richard Ogden said that he's "confident" Arctic Edge will be a cut above the competition on its release and that he hopes "people will look at it as one of the best-looking PSP games, if not the best looking PSP game".

"I'm pretty confident," said Ogden when asked if the game will be a cut above the competition. "Obviously I've not seen a lot else that's coming out this year, but I do think from revamping and revising our engine we're definitely squeezing more out of it."

"It's the same engine we used on Pursuit Force One and Two, so we've taken our knowledge and moved forward from there. It's kind of honed in if you like. I'm hoping people will look at it as one of the best looking PSP games, if not the best looking PSP game, ever, maybe this year."

MotorStorm: Arctic Edge is currently without a release date, but is due before the end of the year.
