Default Rumor: Netflix Heading to PS3 (Due To Survey)

http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/03/25...ps3-bound-too/

Is Netflix PS3-bound, too?

Rumors of Netflix content streaming to the PS3 date back to, well, the first rumors of it hitting the Xbox 360. We all know which of those two platforms got some red envelope love last year, and now, soon after hearing the service may be heading to the Wii, we have what seems to be similar confirmation that Netflix is at least still considering bringing their bitstream to the PS3. The screenshot above was captured by a reader, showing a message like that on the earlier Wii survey -- in fact it's exactly the same from what we can see. Given our proximity to that least newsy day of the year on April 1st we can't be sure this is entirely genuine, but it probably is time for Sony to make a little room in its XMB for Netflix.

I added the date of the article to the OP to clarify when this article was posted.

I too thought that Sony denied this as well.

Many have enjoyed Netflix streaming on their PS3 for a long time now... Even if this deal falls through, that doesn't mean you Can't stream netflix to your PS3 with the help of a PC.

As it looks it's not going to be integrated to the ps3, but run from a disc? Didn't the xbox360 have netflix integrated into the Live service?

And IIRC, it's a 2.0 channel audio, even on the HD material.

I'd pay the One-Time fee of $10 for this functionality to be added. Its potentially an install disc that they'd send to you compared to being able to download it from the PSN network.

I'm not sure how I feel about the $9.99 fee. Seems silly, I paid $500 for a PS3 how is it any different than my computer? I don't pay anything for the streamer there (other than paying for the computer and windows).

I realize the 360 pay for the gold membership and get this, but they were already paying that.

$9.99 - probably skip
no fee - sounds good

You have to be a member of netflix for the 360 version to work which is $10 a month...

Yeah, but it's a Netflix fee, not a Playstation fee. If you want to use the service, that's Netflix's cost for the setup program.

Tempest, how exactly are you streaming Netflix through your PC to PS3? I've tried it and haven't been able to get it to work.

Streaming is handy for watching missed TV episodes, or programming you'd never normally watch. I've got into a few British TV series I never would have seen or heard of before. I wouldn't do it for movies though. There's too much sacrificed in the presentation when you stream.

I guess I equate it to the differences between portable music and CDs and SACDs. Convenience vs. quality.

Here is how you can do it with the help of a PC

PS3 + PC + PlayOn Media Center Software = Netflix streaming directly to your PS3

im thinking that they are doing the fee with the disc because of the fact that there is no deal with sony. If there was a deal im sure you would be able to stream it right from psn. Netflix is basically saying we are going to do this even if you don't like it.

I've been thinking about getting rid of my netflix account because I haven't been using it enough to justify the cost...if I can use netflix on my ps3 though, I would definitely keep it. $9.99 one-time set up fee is fine with me.

But with this I'll be using close to a 1000 watts (PS3+desktop) of power just to watch a movie

I'd be willing to pay 9.99 for netflix
