Default A Movie that Caught you off Guard....?

Often when movies are announced that they will be released many of us, if we think the movie will be interesting, will start to look for and watch trailers for the film. We start to get an idea from the trailers what the movie will be like. Of course, the trailers are for marketing and can make a film appear one way, when in all actuality, it is completely different. What movie did you go see in theaters or rent and when you watched it, the film turned out to be different then you expected.

Here are some films that when i saw they were different then I was expecting... (Yes, I enjoyed all 3)

Defiance
Speed Racer
TDK

I do not want this to turn into a "I hate this film etc thread"

If that's the Falco reference I think it is, a tip of the cap to you, sir. Nice job.

I never had any desire to watch The Color Purple. Don't know why. Just seemed like it was going to be to long and boring. When I finally watched it I said to myself "This is one of the best d*** movies I've ever seen."

Lots to choose from but I'll say Casino Royale because it was so surprisingly good and such a change for the Bond franchise. When they say reboot it generally doesn't pan out to be better so it was a great surprise.

Iron Man is another one for me. I thought the trailers made the movie look stupid. And with the I Am Iron Man music playing. It looked like it was going to turn out to be another Daredevil, Elektra, Punisher. Well just another let down.

+1 also i thought We Own The Night would be about 2 brothers, one cop, one criminal would be duking it out but instead, the bad brother ends up
[Show spoiler]becoming an undercover cop to catch someone else
i was really shocked how oppositly they advertised this movie, but still good

Batman Begins

After Batman and Robin and Batman Forever, I remember thinking great another piece of crap. Assumed the trailers were misleading again. Never so wrong. Batman Begins blew me away.

Bingo. I was about to say Zodiac (which I still agree with) but Begins, by definition, was a movie that caught me off guard. I was blown away by TDK but I had no idea Batman Begins was ACTUALLY going to be good, despite the initial buzz.

Get Smart. I never liked movies made after TV shows and vice versea except The Fugitive is all I can think of. The movie was extremly true to the original tv series just with an update modern style. I enjoyed the movie a lot.

I'd think Hayden Christensen being in a movie is a good enough reason to not it might not be amazing.

I assumed everyone who saw Jumper knew it wasn't to be taken seriously from that.

Let's see for a longtime I wasn't feeling like watching Godfather thinking it was overhyped and man was I wrong, same goes for Magnolia, Unforgiven, Amadeus, the Best of Youth. I learned not to judge a movie by its cover but seems like it's inherent to assume something negative even if the critical consensus is overwhelmingly positive.

I avoided Howard The Duck and 1941 because they said it was spielbergs biggest flops and i ended up loving these two movies!

I'm probably going to get bashed for this, but Twilight caught me WAY off guard. I was expecting something that was just a vehicle for Robert Pattinson's dreamy eyes to mesmerize young girls and get them to buy posters and lunchboxes etc...
While no "Interview", or "Bram Stoker's", I was still pleasantly surprised. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5, when I was expecting a 1.5.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

I wasn't expecting male nudity. I think my exact reaction was, "Aaahhh!!!" (thinking) "WTF WAS THAT??!"

I went to the movie theater with no idea what The Silence of the Lambs was about. Really, no idea. I thought it was a chick flick or something. Date movie.

What a freakin movie that was!

Brokeback Mountain was the one that completely surprised me. I refused to see it in theaters when it was out and it finally came to HBO one Sun night so I sat down and gave it a chance, like, "let's see what all the fuss is about."
I thought it was really amazing, I really didn't have too much of an idea what it was about because all the talk was about two guys doing it on a mountain. But if you can get past some of the man-on-man stuff, you can find a tremendous love story, fantastic scenery and cinematography, music score, acting, just everything about it was a shocking surprise (in more ways that one!).
