Default Has anyone bought Venture Bros on BD?

I saw it at Best Buy for $39.99 and wanted to pick it up, but thought Id shop online for a lower price.(Walmart is generally 5-10 bucks cheapers then Best Buy.) Ive only caught parts of the show on Cartoon Network and wouldnt mind it in HD.

How is it PQ wise?

I'd be comfortable saying it's the best the show's ever looked. Colors are solid and as vibrant as you'd expect. Lines are nice a solid too.

If I remember correctly, my Amazon order was around 30?

Also, it's uncensored, so be prepared.

Pick it up if you got the dough however I haven't checked out the CD with it yet. I put it on and all my friends were laughing since alot of them haven't seen the 3rd season.

I purposely missed the entire 3rd season as the Digital Bits was saying that it would be out on BD. This was their first season done in HD. My cable company doesn't have Cartoon Network in HD, so I waited. Now, saying that I haven't picked it up yet, but will probably order from Amazon this week. They seem to be the least expensive.

Is it true the whole season is on one disc? I thought there'd be 3 discs - 2 BDs for the show, and a 3rd for the audio CD. But from what I've heard, it's just 2 discs - 1 BD and 1 audio CD.

Pretty unlikely Venture Bros. season 1 or 2 will be on Blu-ray anytime soon. Season 3 was the first season produced in HD. I'm not sure exactly how the first two seasons were produced, so it may be possible to go back to the materials and create HD versions, but that is unclear. Either way, considering the general lack of catalogue TV shows, it's extremely unlikely it'll happen anytime soon even if it is possible.

I just got my copy today and it does look great on blu. Alot better then on Cartoon Network. Im really happy. This is some of the best tv on dvd right now.

Show wise, I still like Robot Chicken better, but its still good.

Do like i did. Buy S1 and 2 on DVD. Since the show was produced in 640x480 for the first 2 seasons. The chances of it to be redrawn in 1080p are 0.000%. One thing tought. WHen you'll see S1 and S2 and put S3 in the player. you'll likely go blind by the pure, pureness of 1080p. Literally! I watched S1 1 day, S2 the second day and 3 after. There's 13, 20 minutes episodes. So there are 4h20 minutes on this disc. I'd say 90% look perfect. The other have compession noise. There's also banding but i'am pretty since it's the production fault because sometime everything is perfect but one texture..

Btw. YOU HAVE TO WATCH S1 and 2 to understand anything at all. AND for new people ALWAYS wait after the credit, the punch is almost always there. I didn't do that for S1 and sometime i was lost... LOL!

Thumbs down

I see the first part of Season 4 is coming to DVD. I hope the complete 4th season makes it to Blu Ray. I guess we'll find out after part 2 of season 4 completes its initial run.

Jackson Publick has said that the complete season 4 on Blu-ray will hit after the second half of season 4 airs (probably will release at the same time as Season 4 part 2 on DVD)

Can't wait.

Also, I really should track down a copy of season 3 on Blu....

Good to hear or read.

Season 3 on Blu is quite nice. I wouldn't mind the other seasons on Blu as well.

Yeah, his comments have me waiting for the complete Season 4 BD release also, the same as with Stargate Universe next month.

The fourth season got split up into two separate "halves" so as to reduce the chances of wear-and-tear burnout on the part of the creative staff.

The first two seasons were edited and finished in SD. The first season in particular would look pretty awful on BD.

Season three, on the other hand, is absolutely gorgeous in HD and I can't wait for the complete fourth season on BD.

I have the previous seasons on dvd, but is it worth it upgrading to the BD? Are there any upsides other than visuals, maybe more extras? Having just made the switch, I'm trying to baby step and not replace things too unnecessarily.

Frankly the PQ upgrade would be enough for me. Venture Bros Season 3 (and beyond) were made with HD in mind. And I can't even look at my DVD copies (or in fact watch it in on Basic Cable) without retching any more. I'm not sure about what extra extras it might contain (I imagine... none). But I think the Season 3 BD comes with a series Soundtrack though. Which is neat.

I don't know about the extras because I haven't watched any of them but season three looks absolutely fantastic on BD. Way, way, way better than the DVDs for the first two seasons.
