Default Your ISP is spying on you....

Seems like several ISPs are cooperating with the RIAA in order to stop piracy...I have nothing to hide by any means but I'm not sure how comfortable I am with this.

Not cool...also not surprising. If you're concerned about this, get this program called PeerGuardian. It's a (free) tool for blocking your IP address. I have it for my PCs at home. It works well and runs in the background with minimal overhead.

Not surprising. They ahve the power to do it and it's probably there in the fine end user agreement that they can do whatever they want. I mean you are accessing through their lines.

Yeah...I know that its in the Patriot Act that it gives the government the right to view/monitor all Internet Chat Room (IMs) conversations.

Also, I think that you may have posted this article in the wrong Forum, let alone section, lol.

So instead of getting sued you just get warned? And if you get caught stealing again then you're in danger of being kicked off their thing?

of course if you're using their service to steal, I'd bet that they'd have something to say about it and would report someone.

Sounds fair to me.

Just like if you get caught stealing a CD from a store.

Piracy are theft are two separate things. If you think pirating software is the same as stealing something from a store you need to find a better analogy.

so if you're not doing anything illegal you got nothing to worry about, right?

I don't think it's any different to the company losing money over it

It sounds like this will most likely effect peer to peer connections. RIAA setups up an album (probably with parts missing, static).. and goes to the ISP with the IP of users that took the album from them. The funny thing is now hardcore pirates have changed from torrents and peer to peer.. and are now using rapidshare, netload, etc which I doubt this effects. Basically, pirates always one step ahead . imo they are wasting money trying to dent pirating.. it has been around since the dawn of the internet..back on dialup via MIRC bots. It's not going anywhere.

That is just the thing.. companies do not always directly loose money if you pirate their software or media.

When you steal from a store you directly are taking money out of the stores pocket.. goods they paid for. When you pirate something the company does not loose money unless you were planning on paying for it anyway. A lot of people pirate things they would never have paid for to begin with. How many people with a bogus copy of Photoshop CS4 would have actually bought it otherwise? Many people would have opted for a cheaper solution like buying Paint Shop Pro. Sometimes piracy effects other companies and not the ones you are pirating from!

I am not justifying piracy.. but it is not the same as stealing from a store.

I use it, and it's great. It hogs a lot of space on the hard drive though.
