France Is Irréversible (Gaspar Noé) coming out anytime soon?

I just rented this on Amazon Unbox and found it very interesting and thought-provoking. I know that it fared better in Europe and I'm wondering if anyone here has heard anything about a possible Blu-ray release.

Sadly I haven't heard anything about it. Irréversible is a great film. Quite controversial, though.

Excellent film and a very tough watch. Features two of the most brutally violent acts I have seen in a movie.

Roger Ebert said in his review that
[Show spoiler]the film running backwards (therefore allowing the viewer to see the violence and brutality first, made the film easier to watch because it allowed digestion of the violence over the course of the film. Plus, for me, it "ended" on such a happy note (essentially making the beginning that much more horrible, but still).

Ebert's review

Hello,

There are no plans for a Blu-ray release at the moment.

Default Something else I've been pondering...

...I noticed that Irréversible was shot in 16mm, which was very grainy even on the Unbox download I watched. Would that cause image quality problems for a Blu-ray?

This film is utterly astounding. Check out my review on amazon.com. Monica Belluci is beautiful and Vincent Cassell is a very lucky man.

Personally, I'm banking on Tartan (UK) or Studio Canal to get there first. I obviously hope for Tartan for English subs.

I totally agree! I'm a gorehound to the bone, but the scene with the fire-extinguisher is so damn nasty... Very well made, and it just goes on forever.

Great movie though. Looking forward to Gaspar Noe's new movie Enter the Void.

Fantastic film, utterly depressing and draining but great film making at the same time.

Irreversible is a truly magnificent film, and I cannot for it to be released on blu-ray so I can add it to my Blu-ray library.

I'd rather have "Carne" and "Seul contre tous" from the same director.

i guess i will have to keep my DVDs for a while though

I hope not. I just watched it on DVD last night and almost literally got sick watching the infamous rape scene. Anyone who would want to see that in Hi-Def seriously needs their head examined!

It´s just a movie, and I don´t see why this rape scene should be so much worse to watch in HD (or any format) than the numerous guttings, dismemberments, killings or other atrocities that´s out there for our viewing pleasure.

That statement cannot be farther from the truth. You need to learn to separate cinema from reality. Irreversible is a great film, and great films entertain me. It cannot come out on Blu-ray soon enough, and I cannot wait to add it to my Blu-ray library!

+1000. There are parts of this movie that should be studied by film students (as if they all haven't already seen it ) The very beginning with the camera aimlessly panning around and then nearly touching the brick wall with the haunting score accompanying it achieves a feeling not often done in films any more. The ultra-violence in this movie just adds to the horrible hopelessness of it all. Also at the end with the
[Show spoiler]Beethoven Symphony No. 7 In A Major Op. 92 with the camera spinning around like a little child while the kids dance in the sprinkler and the female lead is lounging reading that book
is one of my all time favorite scenes. This movie is in my top 3 wants easily.

I really liked the movie. I was one of the most graphic depictions of anger I can remember. There were two scenes on it that will be forever in my head. Those who have seen it know exactly what I'm talking about. I liked the way they presented the movie. It took a minute for me to figure out what was going on and get past the spinning camera, but I really enjoyed the movie.
