Default Sony DADC ramps up Blu-ray replication - 2.5M BD50s shipped to date.

This news is a little old but I have not seen it mentioned...

Because of increasing strength in the format, Sony DADC is ramping up its Blu-ray production capabilities and expects to achieve an annual capacity of more than 30 million discs by this fall.

The Blu-ray format, including both 25GB and 50GB discs, has sold about 1 million units in the U.S. through April.

“Due to the high demand for the 50GB Blu-ray product, we will continue to add lines and capacity throughout the year,” said Michael Mitchell, executive VP and general manager at Sony DADC.

Jim Twiggs, Sony DADC VP of strategic development, added, “We are experiencing ever-increasing interest in BD50 product from all genres, markets and studios, both large and small. We have seen title planning requests that include multiple BD50 discs in one package.”

We just have to keep routing Sony on more and more, and we can win this!

Multiple BD50s in one package sounds like TV on BD to me. Bring them on!

They should allocate all 25GB discs to low bitrate ports from HD DVD.

Hehe well think about it, we now have somewhere around 250 titles on BR. If they all sold an average of 10,000 copies to retailers, that would 2.5M right there. A lot of the titles are 25G discs but then a lot of them have sold much more than 10K so that number seems very reasonable.
