Default PS3 Blu-Ray Laser Failure

After 1.4 yrs of having a ps3 as my blu-ray player, the laser has just died. Reading legacy media fine, but unable to read any blu-ray media.

With this in mind, I do not want to purchase another ps3. I am hopeful stand alone units are more reliable and have a significantly longer half life.

Can anyone attest to this? or do all players have a much shorter half life than DVD did?

This issue with ps3 blu-ray lasers is epidemic, and very common. If you have a recommendation for a much more reliable stand alone player I would very much be intested.

Thanks.
