Default Tivo taking on Blu-ray?

I got Tivo's eNewsletter in which they seem to be taking a shot at Blu-ray:
Quote:
And rest assured, all titles will be priced at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a Blu-ray disk: HD episodes of current TV seasons will be available for purchase at $2.99 and new release HD movies will be available to rent from $3.99 - $4.99. And you'll be happy to hear Dolby Digital 5.1 audio is in place for most titles to guarantee a full surround-sound experience in the comfort of your very own living room. Ahhh.
Someone needs to tell the marketing geniuses at Tivo that DD is not the way to position their downloads against BD.

Don't know why they think theyre undercutting bluray costs. When you purchase a BD of a tv show it usually averages out to between $2.00 and $2.50 an episode. Most people have netflix so depending on how many movies a month you get, its possible that your renting costs are cheaper. And we're not even going to get into the differences in audio.

I'd say this is just being overly sensitive, I didn't see it as a shot at Blu-Ray at all. /shrug.

This is not a bad attempt by TIVO. They have to try something. They are just hoping that most people can't do math and will spend $3.99 a bunch of times instead of $40 to $50 once for the Blu-ray set.

No... their prices is not the way to position themselves against BD.

Let's see 2.99 x 24 episodes per season... = $71.76
