Default HDMI 1.3 receivers coming soon?

I thought the hdmi 1.3 receivers should be out by now? Are there here, or is it best to wait a few months more?

The first one is already released. Onkyo 605. Read the thread here.

I was considering getting a pre 1.3 receiver and just letting the PS3 do the decoding and output PCM. I ran across a thread over at AVS recently where someone said that discs authored in advanced mode can't be sent as PCM so you have to have a 1.3 receiver. It sounded like they were saying this was a DRM issue and players weren't allowed to decode these discs and had to output bitstream. Does anyone know if this is correct?

I know the higher end preamps and receivers will be out at the end of the year. I contacted both Anthem and B&K to find out their plans and both told me the same story. 2008 should be a huge year for the HD market because we should see all kinds of products out there supporting the latest specs. CES 2008 should be an eye opener for HD as well.

I purchased that AVR the same week it went out $2000. I was hoping SONY would release a firmware upgrade as soon as the first BD player got out (at least 1080p upscaling). I searched the net in vain. Where did you hear about that?

Anthem said that they will be doing HDMI 1.1 .. that 1.3 isn't necessary and they give reasons why.. here is the link

link..http://www.anthemav.com/NewSitev2.0/...M30_40_50.html

there is an HDMI faq download link in pdf on that page.

Anybody able to chime in on what I features I would NOT actually be able to use in combo with the PS3 right now..and does anybody see anything coming relatively soon that contradicts what they are saying in terms of the other features the faq talks about.

You won't be able to get DTS-HD MA right now. It is not clear if it is possible to send the bitstream over HDMI, also there is no definitive word on a firmware upgrade with DTS-HD MA decoding.

I was at a staff meeting yesterday.

We where informed that the DTS-HD Master standard isn't finished yet.

That's why new Denon receiveres, for instance the 4308 won't have the DTS-HD Master logo on the front.

There is no guarantee that current receivers with Master decoding, will keep working properly.

That's why many companies are holding back. The standard shold be completely finished this autum.

I would expect to see most mfg's presenting units @ 2007 Cedia in Sep and to market by years end. Some high end companies are saying 1.3 isn't necessary. Here's Onkyo's unit:

I believe this is for HD-DVD and not for BD.

As far as BD is concerned, you have a choice.

The difference stems from player decoding (which apart from the PS3 is not widespread) and receiver decoding. With player decoding, you can hear all the lossless audio that's encoded on the disc plus all the INTERACTIVE AUDIO that's embedded by the activation of extra features playback. With receiver decoding, you lose out on all the interactive audio but you still get the main feature audio.

It's not about DRM.

So, likes others have said, getting hdmi 1.3 is no real benefit?
