Default Anyone here have a netbook?

How do you like it if you do? I've pretty much decided i'm getting this one:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Does anyone use a 3g modem with theirs? I'm thinking of going to verizon and getting setup through them (i've never heard any complaints about their 3g service).

No it's not

They have a $60 a month plan that is only for 5gb. The $40 is for 250mb

I have the 8.9" Acer Aspire and love it. I am thinking of upgrading to the Asus though. I really like the fact that you can upgrade the RAM, HDD and network card by removing a few covers. Mine requires major surgery to get at everything. I have AT&T internet and get free service at Starbucks and a few other places. It's rare that I can't find a free hookup though so never really considered it.

How does the internet usage go? Can you surf the net without fear of going over 250mb? I'm just worried abou going over on usage

I've never really kept up with it, but all I use it for is surfing the net and keeping up with my e-mail while working out of town. I don't do a lot of file transfers, mainly a few pics when a problem comes up. Never been hit with any charges.

$40 for 250MB. Does that come with a tube of lubricant?

A netbook would be great bathroom surfing seriously. Keep one in every bathroom.

Thinking about getting one soon.

What do you use them for if you have one?

Do you just use it as a second computer?

Is it your primary computer?

Do you have Word/Excel on it? If not, do you and how do you acess .doc files?

THanks!

We have 2 ASUS Netbooks at our home. They are very nice to have if you want to surf the web, use office apps, etc. We also have a couple desktops too.

My only complaint is that the smaller ones (less than 10.1" screen) sometimes come with a smaller shift key, so my hands have issues typing on them.

If you are looking for mobility though, you can't beat them (unless you go with an Ipad).

Which ASUS books do you have?

I'm considering the ASUS Eee PC 1001P-PU17 and the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU17.

I have been using the Toshiba NB205 since late last year. I use it when I surf just about anywhere in the house. Speed, battery life and keyboard size are all great.

I have an Acer Aspire One. It's one of the early 8.9" screen models. I'm in construction, and I use it mainly as an on the job computer. I am currently using Open Office 3.0 and a free generic photo editing program I got off of Download.com and everything works fine. I really like the 6 hour battery. I'm thinking of passing this one down to my mom or dad and upgrading maybe to an Asus.

Ipads are a joke.

Does Open Office open Word and Excel docs?

I went with this one today: Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU17. Pretty much an impulse buy. For $279 and free 3-5 day shipping from Amazon, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive, bluetooth, Wireless-N, webcam, and Windows 7 Starter, I figured it'll be tough to beat.

Not sure about importing documents, I've only used it to create them. It did open a Microsoft Works document for me though. Not a bad price on that Asus, that's the one I'm looking at. One thing I liked about the Asus was that they have doors to access the RAM. My Acer didn't, so I stuck with what came with it. Had no intention of completely tearing everything apart for .5 GB.

I know one of them is a Eee PC 900HA. The other is a 1001, but can't be sure. I've been impressed with the performance and battery life. I can't think of any problems other than the smaller keyboard.

Yes, I'm quoting myself. Finally got this sucker yesterday and I LOVE IT.

Honestly, the ONLY drawback for me is that I can't change the desktop wallpaper with Windows 7 Starter.

I'll either get over that, or upgrade to full Windows 7 (which I don't see myself doing).

Lol.

I'd just get a 13" notebook before I'd ever get a netbook. Its only a couple hundred more and they can do so much more when needed. Plus they weigh next to nothing just like netbooks.

What is their battery life like. With my new battery, I get about eight hours on a charge.
