That's all well and good. I buy a healthy mix of favourites and films I haven't seen before, but tbh I couldn't care less about anyone else's buying habits, it's the insulting tone of your posts that has attracted a response from me.

While people have priorities, it always amuses me when some people are adamant against it. Going to the movie theater is also a "blind buy", but the same people have no issue with that. And to me, I'd rather spend $15-$20 on a blind buy I can own and re-watch (or re-sell) than the same price on a film at a theater.

Indeed, for me one of the great joys of cinema is the element of discovery. And what better way to discover a film than via a top notch Blu-ray from someone like Criterion or MoC? I trust their curatorial ability enough to risk blind-buying with them.

Why?

jayembee asked you essentially the same question and you responded with a lengthy explanation of why you don't buy blind as much as you used to.

But you never got around to answering his question: why do you care whether others buy blind?

I'm not sure we're ever going to get an answer. The back and forth is just adding noise to the thread. If his posts offend or disturb you, just add him to your ignore list, problem solved.

Because the disc was actually released by Paramount. It has the Criterion brand on it, but essentially, Criterion assembled the extras, and handed it off to Paramount.

A similar situation was true of some Criterion DVDs of Disney-owned titles, like Armageddon and Chasing Amy.

For those who might be interested, I just got an email from Turner Classics Movies Store:

Subject: Up to 40% Off Our Top Criterion Titles!

I've sworn off ordering anything from TCM unless it's an exclusive release from them, but I thought some of you others might be interested. The website is shop.tcm.com

My curiosity and my love of all things 1980s got the best of me when I was in a store today, so I purchased the 1983 remake of Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless.

I am certain that Richard Gere will not replace Jean-Paul Belmondo, and I do not believe that Valérie Kaprisky will stand up to Jean Seberg (although I might be pleasantly surprised). The soundtrack to this remake rocks out, though.

I'll have to share my thoughts later on when I get a chance to watch it.

I saw it back in the day and liked it. My copy is on the way from Amazon.

Criterion didn't assembled the extras, its was David Prior (Fincher's DVD producer) and Paramount that assembled the extras.

I think you'll be surprised by miss Kaprisky in at least one pleasant way.

Anyway, I know I'll finally be able to make it for the B&N June or July Criterion sale this year! Or just pick and choose very slowly from eBays Buy It Now listings...
I think David Prior used to post here or on another board. Hopefully he's still reads the board as the extras for Gone Girl is sparse.

David Prior and Charles de Lauzirika were both the special features producers for DVD release of The Cell.

New titles @ Costco Durham NC store:

J. GODARD Every Man for Himself
J. RENOIR A Day in the Country (in the last month)
Y. OZU An Autumn Afternoon
N. ROEG Don't Look Now (new release!)

And ... I snatched DLN up like a lizard bullseyeing a gnat in mid-air.

Oops. Well, I guess I'll watch Shallow Grave next (tonight or on Friday). As for now, Life During Wartime.

My only question with Walker is... Will I like it? I have been thoroughly disappointed by two of the other three Cox films I have seen. Sid and Nancy, aside from performances, was boring and overlong to me, and Straight to Hell was utter nonsense. That said, Repo Man is in my top 10.
