Now the story is done, I dunno how I really feel about this game. I know the story was rubbish but it gave a certain sense of focus to what I was doing, even if the actual game has no focus at all.

With the story done, the game is now 100% item focused, it's literally the only reward and the only way to progress. But much like with the way the story is put together, the way you get loot is just so damn arduous and so damn scattershot. You can't just buy stuff from stores, you have to do missions to open other missions to earn a certain currency to buy your way into a certain thing to do a certain mission so THEN you can buy stuff. It just feels like they're padding their game where they should have filled it with content.

My other option is to just play a gamble with drops but being good or being shit on PVP has no bearing on what actually drops and you can slog your way through a Raid, Strike or Event and come away with very little. I had hours of gameplay where I was playing fantastically but my character was stagnating in the same place and I started to wonder what the hell I was even playing for so I turned it off.

The story/lore is great..... it's just not in the game. It's trapped in the grimoire cards on b.net.

But you get my point, right? Or maybe you don't.

I just mean that everything in life is about reward right, you do this and you get that. But with Destiny, it's like do these things and you may get that or you may not get anything. I'd have runs where in about half an hour I jump up like three levels, get whole new sets of armour and weapons and then I can go a day without getting anything. Or nothing of value at least. I have no motivation to play well because you aren't rewarded against your performance, I have no urgency to play because I only level up due to loot that is random. It's just all very meh.

It looks like the game is capped once you hit 34, and so what do you do then? Bounties to get rewards you now no longer need? For the joy of the game perhaps? Surely that isn't enough, the PVP stuff isn't that special and surely the tenth time of doing a Strike is nine times too many.

To get an item that is rare must be the incentive to push on.

I got this weapon that does this damage to this enemy & so forth. I have to give Bungie credit for replay factor. People (Even in this thread) are skipping good games released to have at it with Destiny instead & for what.. an item. lol

It is all about the loot now. That is the end game. To play, hoping that RNG rolls in your favor and you get a new exotic weapon or that last piece of raid gear. There are a ton of games like this. You get an obsession to keep doing raids and nightfalls to have a shot of getting something new.

pretty much why I walked away from Destiny.. after the initial story it's so paper thin and throwaway that I finally realized I was just wasting time spinning my gears HOPING I got some random piece of loot. I walked away and never looked back

Sounds like you got your first introduction to a looter-shooter/light mmo. Even when playing through the story and sub-level 20 it's all about getting the right loot.

This. So much this.

For lots of folks, Gjallarhorn is the purple unicorn. Others have it. You've seen it used in the wild. You know it exists, yet you can't seem to get it in a drop. Xur sure hasn't sold it since before a lot of people had enough money to buy it, and many of the ones who did, didn't think it was worth it (or even knew who the hell Xur was).

I got my first in my 14th week of the game's release. My second one just a few days later. #3 came about 5 weeks later.

Fatebringer (a legendary, mind you, not an exotic like Gjallarhorn), however, took me until last week to get. Felt awesome! Already maxed it out. And it owns.

The achievement felt great. I've done all there is to do in this game, aside from making it to the Lighthouse (actually, never even attached Trials of Osiris, as pvp just pisses me off in this game).

I love the game. I want all of my meaningful stuff maxed for The Taken King, because let's face it: I can't get enough hits from the bungie bong.

I'm not even saying I dislike the game, PVP shooters like this are great with friends. I used to play loads of Killing Floor and TF2 in my PC days but I dunno, Destiny's entire system is just so bonkers and not necessarily in a good way.

I'll have great matches and enjoy myself, I'll get great loot and be happy with that but it's just frustrating that I'll have great matches and get nothing, or that due to the nature of how you progress it's possible you could, theoretically, stagnate in the same place for months as you get worthless armour pieces or new guns which just don't have the same level of practicality as to what you're already using.

It hasn't got that bad, but I went through the story not being able to get enough, enjoyed a day or two of the novelty of now being a "proper player" once I reached level 20 but after that I was just like... is this it? I could handle the randomness of the drops if it was at least based on performance, at least that gives me SOMETHING to work towards but instead you just play and hope Lady Luck is on your side. I can see myself getting real burnt out real fast.

CARRY ME.

lol. I have not been able to transfer my great performances in Banner on Thurs/Fri/Sat over into Trials yet, went a yucky 3-3 twice this weekend. Not even bothering to get to L5 on Banner, just L3 on all chars to get the Etherics.

I can't do Rumble. Veins that I never knew existed are beating in my head.

I guess the max Grimoire I can get is 3650 because the 15 points for Rumble are not going to happen unless I boost them.

It's funny because I always have a 3/1 KDR but the person in first is eating points from everyone else and by the time I face off with them, I'll get hit with a sliding shotgun.

You start another character and do it all over again. That allows you to run more than one Raid per week. But you will mainly be farming Strikes/certain areas in the game hoping to be blessed by RNGesus which will allow you to acquire a piece of gear/weapon you didn't have.

I was actually thinking of creating a new character, because I realised upon playing PVP that a Hunter doesn't really suit my style of play but the idea of doing it all again from scratch sounds miserable.

How do the PvP map rotations work? I was looking at my Grimiore score because I started playing Iron Banner this week. It looks like I'm missing a bunch of the maps.

First Light, Bastion, Skyshock, Black Shield, Thieves Den, Timekeeper and Widow's Court. Are these still in the rotation? Seems odd that between the Bad Juju bounty and Iron Banner I didn't hit more of the maps.

Have you done either of the raids? Any PoE? Iron Banner? ToO? You've done the smallest of the content and keep posting about your dissatisfaction with the game. How about you at least play all of the game before you write it off as not being able to keep your interest.
