This thread is dedicated to Orson Welles -- the director, actor, and narrator -- on blu-ray.
Many of the listed films come from international markets; I will update the list with their American counterparts once they become available. Welles the Director

Great thread! I'm looking forward to seeing Chimes At Midnight. I've never seen it! It's one of Welles major works that has slipped by me all these years. And I'm reminded that I need to pick up The Stranger on Blu-ray. That film was his biggest box office hit as a director. It's amazing how well his films hold up. He was so ahead of his time.

Looks like Criterion will be releasing Chimes at Midnight in 2016. Perhaps in a set with Othello and Macbeth?

Great idea for a thread and a most welcome one.
Looks like I have all the blu-rays listed. A right and proper release of Othello has been a long time coming. The Criterion bluray has finally done justice to the film. Some of Orson's work is only available on DVD and I'm surprised you haven't listed them in a DVD section -- Don Quixote for example, and that wonderful Paris Interview. has anyone actually seen The Other Side of the Wind ? or know of its prospects? I would just release the film in its unfinished state, just put it out there so fans and filmgoers can appreciate it. Same with Don Quixote, just put all the footage on disc and release it, even the overlapping and medium capture alternatives, just put it out there. The films don't have to be finished. It is okay to release an unfinished film. Just say so on the box - "This film was never completed." Everybody will understand, nobody will complain. |
